Newcastle United Women showed they meant business last week, with Grace Williams arriving as our new Director of Women’s Football after an impressive spell with Crystal Palace.
And Williams is having an effect already with United confirming the on-loan signing until the end of December of a two-time World Cup Winner.
In what is arguably the biggest signing of the WSL2 transfer window so far, USA International midfielder Morgan Gautrat has put pen to paper for a stint on Tyneside.
The American midfielder was part of the Orlando Pride squad that won NWSL last season playing 13 times for her side and has also won 88 caps for the USA including those two World Cup campaigns playing in the Final in 2015 and as part of the 2019 squad.
On signing for the Magpies Gautrat had this to say.
“It’s been a warm welcome, and I feel like I’ve been welcomed with open arms, and people have told me nothing but nice things about the city and the fans.”
“I’m at a point in my career where I want to be a leader and want to be a part of making a mark and a legacy at a place like this at Newcastle to make history.”
Manager Becky Langley said: “We are absolutely delighted to be adding a player of Morgan’s quality and experience to our squad.”
“She has performed at the highest level for her whole career and brings with her a world class mentality having won some of the biggest trophies in the game for both club and country.”
“Morgan is a leader, and she will bring so much on and off the pitch for us. We are excited to start working with her.”
Gautrat, a 32-year-old, joins Jordan Nobbs and Aoife Mannion as big-name signings at Newcastle this summer in a real statement of intent for the forthcoming WSL2 season.
