Strand Larsen’s proposed move to Newcastle in doubt despite Wolves request – David Ornstein

Newcastle’s bid to sign Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen has taken another twist today.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has issued an update on the potential move, offering some good and bad news for Newcastle United.

The good news is that Strand Larsen has now ‘politely informed’ Wolves of his wish to join Newcastle, although it seems that move is far from simple from a Wolves perspective.

Ornstein reveals that Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has told Strand Larsen that a move is very unlikely over the final days of the summer window, as the Midlands club would need TWO strikers before Monday’s 7pm deadline to sanction his sale.

Wolves are currently looking for a striker but view the next addition as someone to compete with the Norwegian, with their forward line weakened by recent exits for Matheus Cunha and Fabio Silva’s seemingly imminent move for Borussia Dortmund.

As things stand, Wolves insist that all Newcastle bids will be rejected, with the club already turning down offers of £50m and £55m earlier this week.

An improved bid of £60m has been described as imminent by Sky Sports, but it seems that may still not be enough to get a deal done, unless Wolves somehow manage to bring in two new strikers over the final five days of the summer window.

  1. JSL hasn’t said anything of the thing. A Norwegian clout chaser with no connections to JSL, wolves or nufc made it up and the MSM copied him for clicks.
The last time the clout chaser had any type of access to JSL was months ago. Well before nufc interest.

  2. For goodness sake PIF, stop playing the macho negotiators and give Eddie the £60 /£70 / £80 m. needed to get a striker in before the window closes or we might not just be a striker short for the season but also a manager.
Howe needs and deserves support at this crucial time.
What the f…. does it matter that Wolves are making a massive profit on the deal ???

  3. Why are Sky just making pie in the Sky comments? No one from Newcastle would divulge that information.
Newcastle are not prepared to pay the price any club is asking.
How many strikers have they bid for?
Liverpool have tapped up the agent of Isak, and turned his head. Shame they cry when it happens to one of their own .

  4. Not as good as Chris Wood. If I was working at Tesco and refused to work on the tills or anywhere in the building and said I wanted to work in Aldi would Tesco still pay me? Are we still paying Isak for throwing his toys around. Can anyone shed any light?

I suppose they are taking a softly softly approach while trying to get him to train and play for us. I expect that to change after the window closes

No, they would just sack you for gross misconduct. Newcastle can also do
that with Isak and forfeit any transfer fee owing to us in the process.

Come on guys, stop making the work in Aldi/Tesco comparisons to this, it’s making us fans look daft!

And as for everyone moaning and saying to pay the extra (which is clearly well over the value of players), you will be the same ones moaning next year when we have to sell players because of PSR and claiming mismanagement of the club, just like last year with Anderson/Minteh.

Yes, it is very frustrating, and yes it is annoying that the club didn’t bring a striker in right at the start of the transfer window with it being obvious we needed one, but please lads, show, and have, more composure than what Cunha and Mbeumo displayed last night.

  7. It is always the same with Newcastle where we here : player wants the move, personal terms agreed, problem with that is they never get to agreeing a deal!
Newcastle United just waste the time of themselves and everyone else, its pathetic!

If we go into the next few months with Osula as the only recognised striker we will not many games ending up in real trouble come January!

  9. I may be wrong but it is getting too late for other teams to find replacements, we may get Wissa and that will be it.
Wolves are just stringing us along like Palace did imo.
That’s why we should be shopping abroad away from the sceptic Premier League.

  10. Maybe if the players had to pay the agents commission from their own pockets instead of the clubs, there would be more common sense and less greed.
It seems that nearly all the problems are caused by agents, their immoral tactics and them being motivated by nout but coin.
Maybe a Scouse tactic to mess with other clubs: look how many players and clubs are unsettled because someone whispered in the ear of the petulant Swede.

  11. Doesn’t matter if it’s this transfer window, the winter one,or next summers window every club knows nufc are in desperate need of at least one CF so nufc will have to pay over the odds to get one the longer it drags on the more it’ll cost
