Yoane Wissa has just released a Sunday morning statement asking to leave Brentford for Newcastle.
The 28-year-old claims that the Bees have not honoured their promise of allowing him to leave this summer for a reasonable price, even saying he had this “in writing” after discussions on his future earlier in the window.
Newcastle have recently had a £40m bid turned down for the DR Congo star, with reports this morning suggesting Brentford are demanding a whopping £65m if he is to leave before tonorrow’s 7pm deadline.
Wissa has urged the club to respect their previous agreement and allow him to go, with his lengthy Instagram statement perhaps his last role of the dice in a bid to push through a move.
Read his statement in full below:
“Over the past few weeks, there has been increased speculation about my future at Brentford Football Club. As a result, I wanted to speak directly and honestly about exactly where things stand.
“I have stayed silent for much of the summer, but with just hours remaining of the transfer window I feel compelled make it clear that I want to leave Brentford. I believe the club are unduly standing in my way despite a series of fair offers throughout the summer.
“I have always given 100 percent for Brentford since the day I signed back in 2021. I am proud of what we have built together and have never taken the opportunity to play for the club for granted.
“Brentford fans will always have a special place in my heart. And I have always conducted myself professionally, both on and off the pitch. It has been a privilege to wear this shirt for 149 games and celebrate 49 goals.
“Earlier this summer, I held open discussions with the club’s senior management, including key directors and the new head coach. I made clear my intention to explore a new challenge.
“During these conversations, it was confirmed to me and my representatives that the club would not stand in my way if a reasonable offer was received. This was also put in writing.
“Based on this understanding, I sought to find a new club, keeping Brentford informed with full transparency at every step.
“Brentford received a formal offer from another Premier League club and I then communicated I wanted to join. I was under the impression, from all my conversations with Brentford, that there was a mutual agreement to part ways.
“Yet as the window comes to an end, the club has now significantly changed its position, going against what was communicated. This has left me in a difficult and frustrating position. The commitment that I could leave this summer has not been fulfilled. It saddens me to have to write that, and I maintain total respect for the club and its fans.
“I want to make it clear that I have not acted unprofessionally, nor do I wish to leave Brentford on bad terms. I have been transparent in my position throughout. I have continued to communicate openly with the club and conduct myself in a way that reflects my values as both a footballer and a human being.
“I remain hopeful that a fair and reasonable resolution can still be found before the transfer window shuts.
“In the meantime, I must do what I feel is right for my career and family and insist that Brentford honour keep their word to let me join a new club and at a fair price.
“I want to thank all the Brentford fans for their support and understanding during this difficult situation. Your energy and belief in me has always meant a great deal. This has never been about walking away from what is a fantastic football club. It’s about being allowed to move forward with Brentford’s blessing based on a repeated commitment made that I could leave for a new chapter this summer.
“Being made to stay beyond this summer will only tarnish four wonderful years at this incredible club and so I ask Brentford’s owners and directors to now keep their word to let me leave in the final hours of the window.“

Well although I’m not to keen on this move anymore this statement makes the Isak/wissa situation very different from each other copy and paste to all Liverpool fans digging us out and if he does have it writing show everyone show that Brentford are the bad guys in this saga

Yes in fairness he does have it in writing albeit no set amount just a reasonable offer. The biggest difference for me though is the respect he shows for the club, fans and his time at the club. Isak’s statement was for the fairies, no proof and only a thanks to team mates and thanks for being recognised in team of the year at the awards.

I don’t see it differently, I see it that they way the backlash from the Isak statement and made sure they covered off mentioning the fans etc etc.
His behaviour has been on a similar level to Isak, regardless of the statements/situation that led up to this point, it’s just Isak has been more news worthy. Anyone who tries to claim its ok for Wissa to behave the way he has but berate Isak, trying to claim it’s different is a hypocrite living in cloud cuckoo land.
If it’s in writing then why didn’t they progress it the correct way, legally, behind the scenes before releasing this 1 day or so before the window closes?
Behaviour is behaviour at the the end of the day, I don’t want anyone here that is capable of showing the same disrespect as Isak.

It’s a lot more tasteful and there’s a lot more meat on the bones than Isaks isn’t there – it’s also done with less than 48hrs or the transfer window left – not days before they play Liverpool

Definite difference to the pure rat who I don’t think even mentioned the fans at all
Eddie has confirmed there were no promises, verbal or otherwise
I don’t condone wissa not playing mind, but if he has a written commitment Brentford haven’t covered themselves in glory either

The weasel word is “reasonable” offer. The ludicrous fantasy of £65m for a player his age isn’t worthy of comment. I strongly imagine he will arrive tomorrow at a “reasonable” price, namely between £30m and £40m (much more likely at the very top end of that range).

East Stand – I don’t think he’s ever refused to play mate, think he’s just not been selected. He’s training with the first team – I might be wrong but don’t think he’s refused to play though 🤷🏼♂️.

You’re ignoring the fact that it was agreed in writing from the club to leave with one year left on his contract..for a reasonable amount …at present .a £40 million offer ., transfermkt value is way below at €32 million .. wissa has a point promises made promises not kept
Isak had no such agreement written or other with 3 years left on his contract .. see if you can spot the difference

I thought he had the first game, not sure, but as you say it hasn’t been clear especially since tbf. The Brentford manager indicates he hasn’t been picked and\or it’s mutual now, but could be protecting him in case he has to reintegrate?
Your right he has been training with the team, so that’s also a bit different to the rat as well
It’s a messy one on both sides for me. Whereas there’s very clearly one person to blame entirety for what’s happened at the toon – 🐀
