Aston Villa in shock move for Will Osula as Newcastle striker saga takes new twist

For several years, deadline day on Tyneside has been quite slow and predictable, with the club rarely doing major business in the closing stages of the summer window.

Today, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth, with Alexander Isak set for a £130m move to Liverpool as Toon chiefs work frantically to ensure a quality striker comes in the opposite direction.

Another signing is essential, but yet another twist could be on the cards as Will Osula is now being linked with a shock mov to Aston Villa.

This comes from The Mail’s deadline day live blog, where Simon Jones states that Villa are showing late interest in the Danish striker as Newcastle push to land Wissa before tonight’s 7pm deadline:

“Aston Villa are among the clubs showing late interest in Newcastle striker William Osula.

“The 22-year old has stepped into the first team fold of late but will be back on the periphery following the signing of Nick Woltemade while Yoane Wissa could yet arrive from Brentford.

“Villa are scouring the market for forward options but are restricted by PSR on what they can do.”

Osula is currently the only back-up option up top behind £69m signing Nick Woltemade, but there has been some talk of a potential exit, with Sky Germany revealing Bayer Leverkusen’s interest last week.

He started in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Leeds and did not take his chance in the side, looking raw, a little clumsy and rarely threatening aside from one blocked first half shot.

Could Newcastle sanction his sale in the belief Wissa will sign? Or may we even explore a surprise move for Ollie Watkins, should Villa use that cash to sign Osula and another forward?

Who knows, but this feels like one of several twists and turns we can expect to see over the next nine hours!
