Wissa arrives on Tyneside! – Fee & contract agreed as Brentford star takes No.9 shirt

Newcastle United’s painful wait for striker resolutions is finally reaching a positive conclusion.

Alexander Isak is off to Liverpool in a £130m deal, but days after Nick Woltemade’s £69m arrival from Stuttgart, Yoane Wissa is also on Tyneside and all set to sign.

As we revealed in a NUFCBlog exclusive earlier this morning, Newcastle have struck a deal in excess of £50m for Wissa, who is all set to sign a four-year deal at St James’ Park.

The 28-year-old will be handed the number nine shirt and it’s emerged that he’s already on Tyneside, with The Mail’s Craig Hope revealing that the DR Congo star travelled up to the North East this morning.

He will now undergo a medical at the club and complete all the formalities as Newcastle secure the signing of another key summer target.

Wissa will replace Callum Wilson and provide a Premier League proven foil for Woltemade, who has the potential to play just behind the French-born striker who scored 20 goals in all competitions last season.

£50m-plus is an overpay from Newcastle, but another striker to support Woltemade felt essential as we head into a busy season in league, Europe and two domestic cup competitions.

  1. Best window ever i think its turned out to be, yes we didnt want Isak to leave but if Wissa brings his brentford form with Woltermade we might be onto a winner. Also we bulked our squad up, finally looking a good window

  2. The transfer window is turning from a disaster into a fairly decent one. Wissa is a strong striker. The only downside is that the player will have to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations.

One person, a professional commentator and an expert on the Bundesliga and the Turkish league, says that Woltemade is a future star.

While the German adapts, Wissa will be the main forward. That’s the optimal way out of this situation.

  3. Totally overpaid for a player that turns 29 soon. Then Newcastle united owners then Rolled over for Liverpool and got Less what they said they wanted for Isak.Pif are Spineless and Howe is a Yes man only.I wouldn’t say it was a good Transfer window with some of the signings they purchased.Bang Average players.

Overpaid for an ‘excellent’ player who’s 29. Got less than we should have for a trouble maker but got rid of the trouble. PIF are so spineless they let govts talk them into buying foreign clubs & get it up to 4x valuation in 3 years with a trophy to boot.

I see the Newcastle banners are still up in the Stadium of Plight’s bar waiting for the derby. Its all that the great unwashed dream about. The £180m you’ve spent this summer will bankrupt 5under1and next season in the Championship. Administration awaits. Spend some time pondering THAT.

No need to ponder we have our own issues like not winning a match yet as for Sunderland need I say anymore.Could be a Relegation battle yet and hopefully come January Howe and Crew will be sacked. He is a championship manager at best. And don’t forget Spineless.

  8. We overpaid for a number of players this window, but when you weigh up the cost against the potential financial benefit of finishing higher up the league and maybe progressing further in Europe, we’re just moving break even another season to the right.

This is beginning to look lke the best squad we’ve had in a long time.
