Some good news to share on deadline day as Yoane Wissa moves a major step closer to complete a move to Newcastle United.
Speaking from outside St James’ Park, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reveals that the 28-year-old has now completed his medical with the club after arriving on Tyneside earlier today.
The Brentford star drove up to the North East through the night to ensure he was in a position to join first thing on Monday morning, with the DR Congo star clearly desperate to complete a move he’s been holding out for all month.
Downie reports that the fee is £50m plus £5m in add-ons, as we revealed in this morning’s NUFC Blog exclusive, and will sign a four-year deal at St James’ Park, taking the number nine shirt left vacant by Callum Wilson.
Watch footage of the forward from earlier today, showing him arrive at a city centre hospital with a smile on his face to undergo a medical that he’s now passed:

🤔 The striker was waiting on Brentford sanctioning the deal, which was struck late this morning.

The total fees paid for both of our new strikers – up to £55m for Wissa and £69m for Nick Woltemade – comes to just shy of £125m, which is around the figure Newcastle look set to receive for Liverpool-bound Alexander Isak.
Wissa scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season; the second best non-penalty tally behind only Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
The formalities of his move are now being wrapped up ahead of the 7pm deadline, ensuring deal sheets are submitted by then, although it may be that Newcastle do not announce his official move until slightly after that time.
