Simon Jordan: Well done Newcastle, you have signed a stinker

Finally, Yoane Wissa has completed his long-awaited move to Newcastle United, becoming our new no.9 in the process.

A dramatic deadline day signing that looked at times like it would never happen, it’s a move that all parties can be relatively happy about: we get our man, Brentford banked a whopping £55m and Wissa gets closer to his dream of playing in the Champions League.

However, there have understandably been questions surrounding Wissa’s own conduct during this entire saga.

Many fans, neutrals and pundits are in agreement that Wissa and Isak have set a dangerous precedent this summer in their attempts to leave, and talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan has lambasted Wissa for his behaviour over the last few weeks.

Jordan takes aim at Wissa and Newcastle

Simon Jordan fears Newcastle have got one “stinker” out in Alexander Isak and brought another through the door in Yoane Wissa.

This comes after both refused to play, missed training sessions, the opening three games of 2025/26 and released statements on their desire to leave over the final few weeks of the window.

Based on Wissa’s detailed statemnt, it looks like he had genuine reason to be frustrated with his former club, claiming their was written evidence of a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that allowed him to leave this summer following Ivan Toney’s departure.

Still, Jordan has criticised Wissa and Newcastle after actions Isak was slated for have been rewarded by the club, also feeling Brentford got the better of us by landing a £55m fee well above his market value:

“One stinker goes out, one stinker goes in. Well done Newcastle, you’ve got one coming in doing the same thing to Brentford that you were complaining about happening to you. Out goes one stinker, in comes another one.

“The fact of the matter is, who won and who lost? Brentford got £55m for a player who is not worth £55million.

“So while the player is sat there and protesting about the unfairness of how he had some fictitious gentleman’s agreement, the club played their cards to the point that they got £55million.”

Fair criticism? Or a necessary reaction from Wissa?

The question must be asked: would Wissa have been able to secure his move to us if he hadn’t acted the way he did?

Keith Andrews had already relegated the player to train away from the first team, and Brentford seemed all but content to keep the 28-year-old if they didn’t get a huge bid AND a replacement.

However, if the Marc Guehi to Liverpool saga is any indicator, where a player did everything ‘right’ on their end and still couldn’t get their dream move secured.

The drastic measures taken by Wissa to publicly acknowledge his unhappiness with the situation could likely have helped facilitate his departure, and been the catalyst for Brentford to finally capitalise on the golden opportunity we were offering them.
