Newcastle set for double boost ahead of Wolves clash as Woltemade footage offers hint

Newcastle United are back in action this weekend, with Wolves coming to Tyneside in our fourth game of the new 2025/26 Premier League season.

Before the international break, we picked up two draws and one defeat from our opening three games, with a 3-2 loss to Liverpool sandwiched in between 0-0 draws away to Aston Villa and Leeds.

On Tuesday afternoon, big Nick Woltemade was filmed back in Newcastle and training with his teammates for the first time, fresh from his assist in Germany’s 3-1 win over Northern Ireland on Sunday night.

That footage showed the 6ft 6″ striker bonding with his new teammates and receiving a “big Newcastle welcome” from Eddie Howe, but also a few injury hints.

The first showed that Joelinton is back in action, with the Brazilian returning to training after he limped off with a groin issue in our 3-2 defeat to Liverpool just over two weeks ago.

His presence within the group is a big boost after he sat out our draw at Leeds last time out and Brazil’s two World Cup qualifiers after a call-up, but the big man will be back in the squad for Saturday’s clash with Wolves, it would seem.

Then comes the second boost, which shows Sven Botman is OK despite picking up a knock in our last league game.

The Dutchman was forced off in the second half of our 0-0 draw at Leeds, cutting short his commanding display at Elland Road.

It did not seem a major issue and more a precautionary move from Howe, but it’s a relief to see the centre-back is training again and fit for this weekend’s game, especially after a 2025 full of niggles since he recovered from that ACL injury.

  1. It will come as a big surprise – and a very welcome one – if Botman (a) starts on Saturday AND (b) lasts the full game ( I bet he doesn’t!)
