Yoane Wissa suffers injury setback – but Newcastle set for Jacob Ramsey boost

Some good and bad news has emerged shortly after Eddie Howe’s press conference this morning.

Starting with the not-so-good news, it’s emerged that Yoane Wissa has suffered an injury setback as he pushes to return from a knee injury suffered on international duty with DR Congo last month.

Wissa had been pencilled in for our trip to Brighton on Saturday, 18th October, but a setback means he is now targeting a return to action at the start of November, with our games at West Ham (2nd November) or Bretford (9th November) the new target after the 29-year-old saw a specialist this week.

Now for the good news, which surrounds fellow summer signing Jacob Ramsey, who hasn’t featured since our 0-0 draw at Leeds.

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reveals that the midfielder’s return date has been moved forward, with the former Aston Villa man set to be back in the squad for Sunday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

He was back on the grass doing light training last week and has made a fast recovery from an ankle issue that was expected to keep him out until after the international break – but he’s set to be back on the bench this weekend.

So, frustrating news on Wissa, who will be gutted to miss the first two months of the season, but a timely boost to have Ramsey back a few weeks ahead of schedule.

  1. He’ll not be away on international duty ? He will be doing fitness and re-habilitation to get up and fit for the club that pays his wages. Out nearly three months due to international duty playing two games in quick succession without fully training for weeks.
