Will Osula contacted by Champions League club over January deal – Sky Sports

Six weeks ago, it looked like Will Osula was mere hours away from being sold by Newcastle United

And perhaps to Eddie Howe and the squad’s relief, the young Dane was kept on Tyneside, and he’s so far delivered his most promising performances yet in a black and white shirt.

But Osula still faces an uncertain future on Tyneside, particularly with Woltemade’s exceptional start to his Toon career and the impending debut of Yoane Wissa, who should return from a knee injury in a few weeks.

So, it’ll be an interesting few months ahead for the 22-year-old, especially as a new report from Germany suggests a January bid could be in the offing…

Osula remains on Frankfurt radar

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt remain interested in a deal to bring Will Osula to Germany.

The Champions League side made a big deadline day approach for Osula back in August, where it was initially reported that we could strike a permanent deal to sell Osula for £30m.

But Frankfurt moved the goalposts and opted for a loan deal with an option to buy, seeing PIF intervene to close the door on any departure for Osula, feeling it was a deal that no longer benefited Newcastle on those terms.

Despite that collapse in negotiations, Frankfurt are said to be considering making a new loan offer for the former Sheffield United striker in the new year, and have contacted the player’s management over a possible January move.

Deal unlikely unless Frankfurt pay up?

Barring some terrible injury luck, Osula stands very little chance of starting a game for Eddie Howe’s senior side outside of the Carabao Cup or FA Cup this season.

But it’s equally unlikely we’ll allow Osula to leave on loan this season, unless there are some very favourable conditions attached, such as an expensive obligation to buy.

A lot depends on where we find ourselves in January, regarding the form and fitness of Woltemade and Wissa, but it will be interesting to see if Osula’s recent form can help us land a big profit on the Dane, which would only strengthen our PSR position even further.

After last season, the prospect of us being able to get £30m for Osula seemed ridiculous. Yet, after his strong start to the 2025/26 campaign, where he’s scored against Liverpool, bagged two in the Carabao Cup and an assist in the Champions League, it will be interesting to see what Frankfurt – or anyone else – comes forward with in 2026.
