With each passing week, Nick Woltemade’s stock continues to grow and grow, and it’s starting to look like we completed one of the transfer coups of the summer.
Replacing Alexander Isak was never going to be an easy feat for even the most prolific of strikers, never mind a 23-year-old playing in the Premier League for the very first time.
But with four goals for us since his £69m move from Stuttgart, the big man has already earned himself significant praise and adoration from his teammates, fans, and pundits alike.
And it’s at more than just club level that he’s excelling, as Woltemade could be set to star for Germany at the World Cup next year after his biggest performance yet in his country’s colours on Monday night.
Woltemade grabs maiden goal for Germany
Germany moved a big step closer to securing their spot in next summer’s World Cup last night, with Nick Woltemade’s goal enough to secure all three points in a tight 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in Belfast.
Having shone for the U-21s at the EUROs this past summer, where he won the Golden Boot as Germany finished runners up to England, Woltemade has been entrusted by Julian Nagelsmann as the senior squad’s starting striker in recent games.
And he’s now repaid this faith by grabbing his maiden senior goal for Die Mannschaft, having previously had a goal disallowed in their 4-0 win over Luxembourg last week.
Big striker heading in from a corner? Tried and tested from Germany.

A well-taken corner from David Raum just after the half hour mark met the head of Woltemade, seeing him break the deadlock against a Northern Ireland defence featuring Sunderland duo Dan Ballard and Trai Hume.
A superb run of form
Last night’s goal means big Nick is now up to four goals in his last five games for club and country.
He’s scored in his last two league games for Newcastle, netting against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, also scoring in our 4-0 win over Union SG to net on his first Champions League start.
Then, after blanking in Germany’s 4-0 win over Luxembourg last week, the striker made up for it with a massive goal to settle last night’s tight affair in Belfast.
Hopefully our club record striker can make it five in six when we travel to Brighton this Saturday!
