Newcastle United’s striker department is currently looking strong, with Nick Woltemade and Will Osula set to be joined by Yoane Wissa once the DR Congo star returns from injury next month.
We have a 23-year-old all-rounder in Woltemade, a 29-year-old poacher in Wissa and a raw but talented Osula, giving Eddie Howe three very different options to work with.
But, with Frankfurt plotting a January move for Osula and Wissa approaching his 30s, it may not be long until the club are in the market for another centre forward.
This brings us on to the latest transfer link, where The Chronicle have reported on our admiration for Brazilian striker Igor Thiago.
The Brentford striker has hit five goals in eight games this season and is believed to be a player on Steve Nickson’s radar, with our head of recruitment well aware of the 24-year-old following his prolific spell at Club Brugge and time in Brazil.
Thiago suffered an ACL injury last year, seeing him sidelined for much of 2024/25 following his £30m switch from Brugge as Brentford’s Ivan Toney replacement.
Only time will tell if Newcastle pursue the 6ft 2′ forward in the coming transfer windows, but it sounds like Nickson has been tracking him for some time, with Toon scouts also alerted by his strong start to the season with the Bees.

Maybe we could look for players from emerging leagues before they get to the prem
