Some big news to share on Monday night regarding the Newcastle United Women’s team.
In a Monday tea time statement from the club, Newcastle have announced that Becky Langley has been sacked as the head coach of Newcastle United Women.
After missing out on promotion to the WSL last season, the pressure was on this term to get Wor Lasses into the top flight, especially after a summer overhaul featuring a number high profile signings.
However, despite back-to-back promotions up to the Women’s Super League 2, Langley has lost her job after a poor start to the 2025/26 campaign, with Newcastle Women currently sat 9th out of 12 following just one win from our opening six games.
A club statement on her departure says: ‘Newcastle United Women can announce that it has parted ways with manager Becky Langley.
‘Becky has played a significant role in the club’s rise since being appointed in 2019, achieving back-to-back promotions to take the team from the fourth tier to Women’s Super League 2.
‘She was at the helm as Newcastle United Women turned fully professional in 2023, becoming the first third-tier side to do so, and led the team during its first ever matches at St. James’ Park.
‘After ending their first season in WSL2 with a fifth-place finish, Newcastle United Women currently sit ninth in the table after six matches of the current campaign.
Everyone at Newcastle United thanks Becky sincerely for her service to the club and wishes her the very best in her future career. An interim coaching structure will be put in place while a successor is appointed.’
We’d like to wish Becky all the best and thank her for five years of superb work at the club and within the city, which must not be forgotten prior to the side falling short this season.

Looks like Grace Williams hasn’t hung around, some money spent in the summer but also some questionable signings like another 2 keepers (Tamminen, Liefting) despite having one of the divisions best keepers already here and two back ups.
She did a great job to get them to where they are but to push on is beyond her for sure and will be down to someone else.

Tough decision, but Becky’s contribution to the growth of Newcastle United Women has been incredible. The progress made under her leadership shouldn’t be forgotten. Hope the next chapter builds on the strong foundation she’s left slope rider behind.

Thought they would wait until the end of the season. I started supporting the women’s team a few years ago, the season they just missed out on promotion from Division One North. I loved those early years, local lasses playing for their club. Those first games as St James’. That cull end of last season was brutal, getting rid of players like Katie Barker just felt wrong. If we had improved by bringing in mercenaries it would have made it an easier pill to swallow, but we’ve gone backwards. I would say a key difference in the lower leagues and WSL 2 (previously Championship), is the quality of the defense, many of our goals came from defensive mistakes. But those mistakes are far fewer in the top 2 divisions. Yet Langley never seemed to update the playing style. It has become painful watching the ladies lately. I just hope the new manager drops that Liefting, yet again at least one of the goals today was her fault. I agree with the Howe comment. Something feels very wrong in the club.
