Former Newcastle defender takes Toon role alongside Ditchburn after shock Langley exit

Following the news two days ago that Becky Langley was sacked as the manager of Newcastle United Women, the club has already decided on a short-term replacement.

Assistant manager Claire Ditchburn is the name that will take over the lasses in an interim role, as the club looks to steady the ship after a rocky start to the season.

This is a temporary move while the club searches for Langley’s long-term replacement, and Ditchburn will be joined by former Toon defender Peter Ramage, who will step in as her assistant.

Ramage is the club’s current Assistant Loan Player Manager, with the 41-year-old Ashington-born coach well known on Tyneside after making 51 appearances for the club from 2004 to 2008.

Results have been poor for Newcastle Women this season, with just one win leaving the Lasses 9th (out of 12) in the Women’s Super League 2 and well behind the promotion position.

The club released a statement concerning the interim moves, saying:

Newcastle United Women can confirm that assistant manager Claire Ditchburn will lead the team on an interim basis.

She will be assisted by former Magpies defender, and current Assistant Loan Player Manager, Peter Ramage.

Goalkeeper coach, Stephen Brass, and first team coach, Luke Thomas-Arayo, will continue in their respective roles.

The team have now begun preparations for our trip to Ipswich Town Women on Sunday, 2nd November following the international break.

Ramage was previously an U23 coach and will look to use his experience playing for Newcastle United to help the team turn their season around before a new boss arrives.

United will  venture to 11th place Ipswich on Sunday, which looks like a big game already to get back on track.
