Howe reveals extent of Sven Botman injury and “big change” to Will Osula

When Sasa Lukic grabbed Fulham’s equaliser midway through the second half, the Serbian midfielder collided with Sven Botman on the goal line.

The resulting collision left both players bleeding, and Botman was soon substituted whilst Lukic was bandaged up and able to play on for another 20 minutes.

Addressing questions about the Dutchman’s well-being, Howe confirmed that the centre-back has NOT suffered a concussion

“Sven’s fine. I think he’s just got a cut so there’s no concussion there.

“A good decision from the on-field physio to take him off.”

This is a relief, as any concussion for Botman would have automatically ruled the Dutchman out of Wednesday’s clash with Spurs, and potentially next Sunday’s trip to West Ham.

Howe hails Osula

Then to Will Osula, who made a big impact from the bench yesterday, adding energy and spark before his run and shot created the opening for Bruno’s tap in.

Howe had some positive comments following an all-action cameo from the former Sheffield United man, highlighting just how much he’s improved in such a short space of time, whilst also revealing an ankle issue that’s limited his minutes:

“There’s been big growth in [Will Osula’s] game. He’s worked tirelessly with Graeme Jones, who’s done a lot of individual work with him, as have all of our coaches, but Graeme in particular.”

“I feel he’s made big strides this year. All our coaches feel his game’s in a good place.”

“When he’s come on the pitch this year I think he has made a difference. He’s had to be very patient, he’s managing an ankle injury at the moment so he’s not 100% fit, which is a real shame because I think you could see today he’s a massive threat with his pace.”

“I’m really pleased with Will. We’ve got to try and manage him correctly. But I think you’ve seen everyone that’s watched us, a big development in his game, big change in his confidence levels because of that.”

Osula hasn’t appeared often this season, but with a goal off the bench against Liverpool, a hand in yesterday’s winner, two in the Carabao Cup and a Champions League assist at Union SG, he’s making an impact and clearly working hard to improve his game behind the scenes.
