Newcastle Find Their Feet But Keep An Eye On Transfer Market

After all the summer shenanigans that Newcastle United fans and manager Eddie Howe had to deal with given a certain Alexander Isak and various toys being thrown out of prams, it has been a slow but steady start to the 2025/26 domestic Premier League campaign.

As we head towards the month of November, Howe has overseen eight games in our top flight campaign and so far we have picked up two wins and three draws, but as of yet consistency is not really our friend as we look for a rhythm with our new signings and wait for them to properly settle in and better hit the ground running. Optimism that we will do that sooner rather than later is high though, particularly after we made it two wins from two in the Champions League campaign with our midweek comfortable victory over Portuguese side Benfica. Those who know where to find the best online bookies will be aware that newcastle united are currnently 12/1 to win the Champions league this season so the Toon could well be worht a punt as a dark horse option.

As eyes turn back to domestic action and the visit of Fulham to St James’ Park at the weekend, there are also two bits of very interesting transfer news on the speculation rumour mill which would improve the spirits of fans even further should they eventually come off as we tick into the New Year.

The first concerns 22 year old Elliot Anderson and it is being claimed that we are seriously exploring the possibility of bring him back home in January if we can get a deal over the line with Nottingham Forest. We effectively had to sell our Academy talent back in the summer of 2024 for Profit and Sustainability Rule reasons and it was basically a deal that did not go down well with many at the club, and he has unsurprisingly done very well at the City Ground, earning England recognition in the process. With us securing Sandro Tonali to a new long term contract on the sly, although we have no buy back clause, given the chaos that surrounds Forest right now it seems that we hope we can take advantage of that to bring him back sooner rather than later.

The other interesting piece of transfer speculation concerns 21 year old Porto and Spanish international striker Samuel Omorodion. The young talent has long been linked with a number of clubs around Europe and the Premier League, and I believe Chelsea were the last side to reportedly hold talks with him (roughly around the point Forest also apparently had) but nothing eventually came of it.

With Nick Woltemade seemingly settling in well following his late arrival Bundesliga side Stuttgart and already finding himself regularly amongst the goals, we are yet to see what Brentford capture Yoann Wissa can do in our colours and again given the late nature of his own move (and behaviour), Omorodion would be an interesting alternative should it not look like it is going to work out. On that front, we are also being loosely linked with an interest in Crystal Palace’s French talent Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Whether or not Wissa turns out to be an understandable panic buy, at least the rumour mill has us doing our due diligence to correct things quickly should it look
