Tottenham star set to miss Newcastle clash – 8 out and Frank reveals rotation plans

Spurs have been impressive under Thomas Frank this season, sitting third in the Premier League and remaining unbeaten away from home in all competitions.

They have, however, got a few injury doubts to contend with heading to tomorrow’s Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle, where a place in the quarter-final awaits the winner.

Cristian Romero felt his groin in the warm-up prior to their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa and has missed their last two games since away to Monaco and Everton.

Spurs had hoped to have the Argentinian back for Wednesday’s game, but it looks like the 27-year-old will be absent once again, with the centre-back one of EIGHT Spurs players expected to miss out.

Alongside Romero, it looks like the game will also come too soon for Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie, with Yves Bissouma, Ben Davies, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin also out.

On their injury situation and Romero’s continued absence, Frank said:

“No (no new injuries), all good from the guys that played yesterday.

“Cuti [Romero] on the pitch today, not a timeframe, but on the pitch. Dom [Solanke] stepped forward, step by step. Destiny [Udogie] on the pitch as well today. Three steps forward.”

With this in mind, Kevin Danso could continue at centre-back, with the Austrian starting alongside Joao Palhinha in their 3-0 third round win over Doncaster last month. I’d expect Micky Van de Ven back for tomorrow, however,

Frank has also discussed the need for Spurs to make changes at St James’ Park after Sunday’s 3-0 win at Everton, revealing there will be a “little bit of rotation” after a run of games every three or four days:

“Of course there will be a little bit of rotation like I have basically done from game to game because we have played every third or fourth day.

“You need to do it, every club does if you need to compete and that’s the next thing. If you want to compete over 60 games, you can’t play the same XI for 60 games because the risk of injury, fatigue and lack of performance, that naturally happens.

“We have some players here who had a fantastic experience last year winning the Europa League final. They are very eager to win more trophies and we would like to compete and win. We are definitely going for it.”
