Shock Newcastle exit on Tuesday as Toon chief leaves for overseas opportunity

It’s been a period of comings and goings at Newcastle United, both on and off the pitch.

Before a busy summer transfer window in and out, we saw Paul Mitchell depart as our sporting director, with Ross Wilson recently stepping into his shoes last month.

A new CEO has also arrived in David Hopkinson, who replaced Darren Eales, and it wasn’t too long ago we saw two influential figures leave in Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

Today, another key member has departed, as Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone leaves after three years at the club.

This has was first revealed by The Mail’s Craig Hope, with Sky Sports’ Keith Downie since confirming that the former Arsenal executive is heading for the exit door.

Both report that the CCO is now pursuing an ‘opportunity overseas’, although it is yet to be made clear just what role he is leaving for.

Either way, Hope reports that he has now been placed on gardening leaving, leaving Newcastle and new CEO Hopkinson on the lookout for a replacement.

  1. This happens in business and football all the time not a shock at all, it’s hard to think it isn’t because for so many years we just had Penfold and the fat man ( sounds like a really bad 1980’s detective show)

  2. Absolutely Glorious – Agreed.
Pure speculation, but the timing shortly after a new CEO comes in may not be a complete coincidence (not a negative if that isn’t a coincidence)
