Newcastle chief set for Juventus move – Report

It’s fair to say that Peter Silverstone leaves behind a mixed legacy at Newcastle United that did see some financial and commercial success achieved on his part, but has done some immense damage to the trust and faith shown by a lot of the fanbase.

Following on from his widely-reported departure on Tuesday afternoon, the former Chief Commercial Officer will be remembered for both helping secure our latest Adidas deal whilst also implementing controversial ticketing procedures.

Having previously served as a business development director at Arsenal, Silverstone has now been placed on gardening leave, and is all set to embark on the next chapter of his career and is leaving on relatively positive terms.

And it’s certainly a surprise move, taking two decades of commercial experience to a European giant…

Silverstone set to join Serie A giants

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, Silverstone is set to take up a business role at Serie A side Juventus.

After a week of upheaval at the former European champions, which saw manager Igor Tudor sacked and Luciano Spalletti appointed as his replacement, Silverstone looks to be part of a changing Juventus hierarchy.

Silverstone’s departure has been linked to new chief executive David Hopkinson’s 100 day audit of the club, where he looked to evaluate every aspect of Newcastle United as a whole.

Part of his overall mission to make us a member of the European elite, Hopkinson is said to preach unity and collective goals above all else at the club, with his mantra being “You’re either with us, or with yourself.” And you could infer by today’s news that Silverstone did not align with Hopkinson’s values.

Smooth sailing at St James’ Park?

To say the last few years have been tumultuous near the top of the Newcastle United hierarchy would be quite an understatement.

Each of Dan Ashworth, Paul Mitchell, Darren Eales and Amanda Staveley have come and gone, and with Silverstone the latest name on the list of senior departures.

But now, with Eddie Howe in perhaps his most ‘influential’ position yet since his arrival, coupled with the recent appointments of Hopkinson and Ross Wilson as the new sporting director, and we have perhaps the most united set of decision-makers at the club post takeover.

Now Silverstone has departed, fans will be hoping for a more aggressive, financially lucrative approach to commercial opportunities, like finally getting training ground and dedicated kit sponsors sorted like top clubs like Manchester City have.
