Newcastle linked with in-form Brentford star – Spurs and Aston Villa also keen

Last month, we covered a report from The Chronicle on a certain Premier League forward Newcastle’s head of recruitment has been tracking for some time.

That man is Igor Thiago, with it reported that Steve Nickson is an admirer of the Brentford striker and a player he watched closely during his time at Club Brugge.

The 24-year-old missed much of last season as he recovered from a serious knee injury, but he’s been one of the standout strikers in the Premier League this term.

With eight goals, including a brace against Newcastle on Sunday, in 11 games this season, only Man City’s Erling Haaland has scored more than Bees forward.

This brings us to reports from Brazil, where Trivela and ESPN Brazil have highlighted three clubs who are showing interest in Thiago; Newcastle, Aston Villa and Spurs.

It’s claimed that all three have enquired about the player’s availability and potential price tag, although the early signs are that Brentford have no interest in selling their top scorer.

Considering his early-season form and his importance to a side that lost top scorers Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo over the summer, it’s no surprise that the Bees will stand firm.

From a Newcastle perspective, I understand the need to sign another forward should Will Osula, but Thiago would cost big money and expect to play; not compete with Woltemade and Wissa as some rotation option.
