Newcastle interested in signing Aleksandar Stanković – Report

The January window is edging closer, and a few new transfer links have emerged over the past few days.

We’ve seen Newcastle credited with an interest in Celta Vigo right-back Oscar Mingueza, while Brentford’s Igor Thiago has also been linked via the Brazilian media.

The latest comes from journalist Matteo Moretto, who has revealed Newcastle’s interest in Aleksandar Stankovic via Fabrizio Romano’s Youtube channel.

He reveals that Newcastle scouts have been watching the 20-year-old Club Brugge star very closely this season, travelling to Belgium on several occasions to watch the defensive midfielder in action.

Spurs are also named as the second Premier League side tracking the Italy-born Serbian international, who could line up against England in tonight’s World Cup qualifier.

Stankovic joined Club Brugge from Inter Milan in a deal worth €10m back in July, but that move included a buy-back option or the Serie A giants.

Moretto reveal that Inter’s buy-back option stands at €23m for the summer of 2026, going up to €25m in 2027, meaning we could face competition from Italy and North London should his former club pursue a deal.

The 6ft 1′ midfielder can also play at centre-back and has featured in each of Brugge’s Champions League games this season. playing 90 minutes against Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Atalanta and Monaco.

Aleksandar is the son of former Serbia captain and Inter Milan star Dejan Stanković, who played 368 games across spells at the San Siro and Lazio.
