Some injury updates have emerged from the embargoed section of Eddie Howe’s post-match press conference after last night’s 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.
All eyes now turn to Sunday’s Tyne and Wear derby, and there is mixed news to bring on the fitness from just a few days away from our short trip to the Stadium of Light.
The potentially good news is that Nick Pope (groin) has a chance of making the game, with the goalkeeper pushing to recover in time after missing our last our games in all competitions.]
Joelinton came off last night with a groin issue that’s set to be assessed, leaving him an early doubt for the game, while Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Will Osula and Emil Krafth are expected to miss out once again.
Yoane Wissa is available but has been struggling with illness this week, which explains why he came on so late in last night’s draw in Germany.
Asked about Wissa’s fitness and ability to start, Howe gave a mixed answer to the Shields Gazette: “Yes, he can [start]. Whether he’s physically able to and how long he’s able to play, they’re all questions.
“He had a bit of illness in the last 24 hours, hence why he only got a few minutes today. It is unfortunate because he was going in the right direction. So, a little knock back there.
“But, yes, we’ll train him today. We’re all back in and he’ll get some work and we’ll see how he is.”
Discussing whether the same side can go again on Sunday, Howe added: “I think the same team can go again. But I have to make that decision on how the individuals feel.
“And, of course, we have a very good squad waiting for their opportunities. So, changes could also be a thing that helps us.”

Let’s hope he doesn’t play Barnes on the RHS as totally wasted in that position, what did they think he was going to do better than Murphy or Elanga?
Tonali had one of his worst games ever, just doesn’t look on it at the moment.
Their first goal was just shambolic defending with Tonali asleep at the back post.
We looked a better team when Miley replaced Joelinton, who sadly offers very little these days.
