Newcastle set to lose recruitment chief to Man Utd – Report

Of all the chaotic situations that have taken place both on and off the pitch since the 2021 takeover, Dan Ashworth’s departure ranks quite highly in terms of drama caused.

Joining us from Brighton back in February 2022 as our new sporting director, it was only two years later that Ashworth was placed on gardening leave as he was pushing to join none other than Manchester United.

We eventually received some significant compensation from the Red Devils for Ashworth’s services, and the icing on the cake came when Ashworth would only last five months in his new role.

So surely, any more of our staff and heads of department would think twice before making the move from the North East to the North West, right?

Man Utd to set poach key recruitment figure

According to The Mail’s Jack Gaughan and Chris Wheeler, Newcastle’s head of youth recruitment Paul Midgley looks to be Man Utd bound, bringing an end to a three year tenure on Tyneside.

Midgley, who will fulfil the same role at Man Utd, is said to have been the chosen candidate from an extensive selection process, having previously worked with their director of football Jason Wilcox.

Resistance on our end is expected, however, as Gaughan and Wheeler note our reluctance to allow the aforementioned Ashworth go so easily without a worthwhile compensation package.

During his time with us, the 38-year-old Midgley has seen some talented tee s join our academy setup, with Sam Alabi and Michael Mills being two of the standout names who have quickly become England youth regulars since impressing for our Under-18s.

Newcastle’s recruitment at Under-18 level has been superb in recent years, making Midgley’s departure a disappointing at this stage of our Academy’s development.

  1. Disappointing but these things happen all the time across clubs and I have faith we’ll get a able replacement in. We have ourselves recruited from the so called septic six so it happens both ways.
Good luck to him and we should thank him for a fantastic job he has done to advance our academy to where it is today.

Correct. People move on. I hope were able to rinse the Salfords for every penny.

  3. I’m playing from the UK and found this casino while browsing an international gaming blog during a quiet Sunday afternoon. Someone mentioned trying it while travelling, which caught my interest. Later that night, I explored gransino and enjoyed how straightforward everything felt. I’d been on a losing run and promised myself I wouldn’t chase it. After a rough opening, things slowly improved and a win covered my losses. What I liked was the calm feeling throughout the session.

Barely a single of these ‘wonder kids’ has even made the bench in the last 3 seasons. No great loss.

Where have you been LMAO before the take over our academy has never even been an after thought and that’s not just under Ashley, all my life as a fan of our club the academy has never been invested in let alone run properly.

We have been behind every club in that respect, which is crazy given our catchment area I mean just look at some of the names that have slipped through our fingers . Even the great king Kevin got rid of them for a time.

Until recently our academy has been the third worst in the North East which is shocking, now we have one that has attracted kids that have been chased by the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd, Real et all in fact we’ve even stolen kids from them which shows a huge turn around as we normally lose kids to them.

The fact these kids aren’t coming through has nothing to do them not being “wonder kids” there are things at our club that aren’t 100% yet and hinder their progress i.e. our terrible loan department for one.
Eddie also needs to trust them more I mean that LB and LCB injury concerns yet didn’t play A Murphy despite him playing well when called upon but Eddie would rather see BDB getting roasted week in week out.

So anyone who makes a comment like that needs to think again and maybe take more interest in our academy and remember that at last we have a academy that will produce good players for years to come and maybe wind ya neck in 😋
