The next few transfer windows should usher in a new era at Newcastle United, with plenty of fresh faces calling St James’ Park their new home.
This past summer alone we’ve seen young stars like Malick Thiaw, Anthony Elanga and Nick Woltemade all brought in to be the future of an ageing squad.
But of course, this means we’ll no doubt be seeing some cornerstone stars of the squad depart, which will be a big blow to both our depth and Eddie Howe’s reliance on players he’s backed for so long.
And according to a new report, two big names who’ve been with us for over a decade combined could be next to leave the club, with the Saudi Pro League looking like a potential destination…
Trippier on his way out?
According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Kieran Trippier is admired by Neom Sports Club, who have previously signed former West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi and West Ham forward Said Benrahma from the Premier League.
The veteran fullback has been out injured since mid November and is set to leave on a free in the summer. His contract expires at the end of the season and there is currently no prospect of a new deal on the horizon fpr the 35-year-old, who is likely to target one last big payday elsewhere in 2026.
As a result, this January poses the last possible opportunity for us to recoup some money and build up some PSR headroom by selling the defender.
Losing Trippier at this stage would be a significant headache for Howe should injuries not clear up, although a winter move may be on the cards if we get Tino Livramento back soon and sign some much-needed full-back cover.
Joelinton happy, but offers could still be listened to…
Earlier this week, reports suggested Joelinton was also subject to interest from the Saudi Pro League, casting some doubts over the 29-year-old’s future.
No longer a guaranteed starter, and with a sketchy fitness record as of late, the big Brazilian is currently contracted until 2028 and a fee in the region of £50m could be tempting.
But despite that earlier reported interest, not only is the player content with us, but he’s said to also be a ‘big part’ of Howe’s plans moving forward.
The Chronicle state that Newcastle have no plans to sell the midfielder in January, and would only do so if an astronomical offer arrived from the Middle East.
Miley’s pivot to full back, and the potential sale of Joe Willock in the next six months does again leave us light on central midfield options. And with Howe having previously expressed his desire to have at least six to choose from, it does seem unlikely that Joelinton is sold any time soon…

It’s not sustainable anymore to have a manager who is in control of everything.
Hopefully the new CEO will take powers away from Howe (in a positive way) so that we can start excelling in long term player dealing while giving Howe the head room to focus on the pitch.
Totally agree with Keith – we should trade with the Saudi clubs and start getting fees for our ageing stars while transitioning to a younger more technical squad.

If 50 million is true for Jolinton, we can not turn that down. Can put that towards a more creative midfielder, or 2 full backs to compete with Livremento and Hall.

We should be using Alex Murphy more at LB make him the main cover for Hall and play him when we rest Hall.
Might be a bit early for Shahar to make the jump up so a RB is definitely needed.
