More good news for Newcastle ahead of Bournemouth clash – Another cup boost!

Before next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final, where starting centre-backs Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias will miss out for Man City, we host bogey team Bournemouth in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

We drew 0-0 away at the Vitality Stadium back in September, and the Cherries pulled off a shock 1-4 win when they travelled up here last season thanks to a Justin Kluivert hat trick.

Eddie Howe and the lads are coming off the back of a monumental 4-3 comeback win against Leeds in the Premier League, whilst Bournemouth have won just once in their last eleven games, beating Spurs 3-2 on Wednesday night.

We are the bookies’ favourites to win tomorrow, and we’ve received a pre-match boost this morning as the visitors have lost a huge player on the eve of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.

£62.5m move good news for Newcastle

Antoine Semenyo has completed a £62.5m move to Manchester City, passing his medical with the Cityzens on Thursday and putting pen to paper officially on Friday morning.

This means that Bournemouth, who lost the likes of Kerkez, Huijsen and Zabarnyi over the summer, will be without their top scorer and this season’s star man for tomorrow’s FA Cup tie at St James’ Park.

The 26-year-old has been one of the standout players in the league this season, with ten goals and three assists: only new teammate Erling Haaland and Brentford’s Igor Thiago have scored more than him.

And his absence will be welcomed by Howe and the squad on Saturday, as he proved to be a major threat against us in the last few times we’ve played him: we’ve failed to beat Bournemouth on the six occasions Semenyo has featured (0W, 4D, 2L), where he has grabbed a goal and two assists in the process.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth could also be without striker Evanilson, midfielder Tyler Adams and Dutch attacker Justin Kluivert.

But he could play on Tuesday!

Despite the popular belief that he’ll be cup tied, it looks like Semenyo will be able to play in next week’s Carabao Cup semi-final, with the rules being relaxed on ineligible players.

He’s made one appearance for Bournemouth in the competition, but will be able to feature for Manchester City in next Tuesday’s first leg at St James’ Park, as Ben Jacobs reports.

This gives Guardiola an embarrassment of riches in attack, with Semenyo joining the likes of Foden, Cherki and Doku to supplement Haaland up top.

Discussing his move to Man City today, he said: “I am so proud to have joined Manchester City. I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant team in the Premier League as well as achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

“They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep.

“I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here.

“My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that. And City are in a great position – still involved in four competitions. I really feel I can help them have a strong second half of the season.”
