3 changes? – Predicted Newcastle team vs Man City as Howe faces Carabao Cup call

Newcastle have a mountain to climb at Man City tonight, but you just never know with this unpredictable Newcastle team.

Score the first goal to make it 2-1 in the tie and it’s game on. Concede, and it’s practically game over at 3-0, especially against a Man City side who’ve not lost to Newcastle at the Etihad since 2014.

So, with a few hours to wait until the team sheets drop, which line up will Eddie Howe go with? Here’s our best guess…

Predicted XI

(3-4-2-1): Pope – Thiaw, Botman, Burn – J Murphy, Tonali, Ramsey, Hall – Barnes, Gordon – Wissa,

OUT: Trippier, Willock, Elanga.

IN: Botman, J Murphy, Wissa.

With Bruno, Miley and Joelinton all expected to miss out, Howe’s options are limited. However, I would not be surprised if we returned to the system that worked so well in Paris should Sven Botman and Jacob Murphy be passed fit to start.

If not, I think we could see a similar side to the one that started at Anfield on Saturday, with Trippier having to go again at right-back, Willock keeping his place and Wissa replacing Elanga in attack, allowing Gordon to move back to the left.

But, on the basis we have a few back available in Botman and Murphy, the latter could give us an outlet down that right side to support Barnes and supply crosses into Wissa, with Tonali and Ramsey giving us plenty of legs in a midfield pairing that got the better of PSG for much of last week’s game at PSG.

How do you see us lining up tonight? Let us know in the comments below.
