The England squad has been announced for our latest World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania next week, however Newcastle centre-back Jamaal Lascelles has NOT been included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad – despite the NUFC skipper being watched by national team scouts in recent weeks.
It’s fair to say that this was to be expected for the 23-year old. It’s no secret that his eye-catching form has put him in the thoughts of England manager Gareth Southgate, with his trusted assistant Steve Holland present at the AMEX last Sunday to cast his eye over Lascelles, however it’s no surprise to see he hasn’t been given the call-up on this occasion.
Just weeks ago, many had doubts over Lascelles’ ability to cut it in the Premier League and, as good as he’s been, it would be premature of us to get carried away after a few match winning performances.
Here’s the full 26-man squad Gareth Southgate has picked for next week’s WC qualifiers:
Here it is – the #ThreeLions squad for our last two @FIFAWorldCup qualifiers. ?

Interesting to see the likes of Delph and Livermore given call up’s. It’s fair to say a player of Jonjo Shelvey ability could be knocking on the door at some stage given our lack of gifted centre-midfielders, but he’s got to seriously sort his act out before his name will be considered.
Also worth mentioning that Harry Maguire is handed a call-up. A centre-back heavily linked with a move to Newcastle prior to him joining Leicester over the summer.
Finally, congratulations to NUFC’s very own Freddie Woodman, with the 20-year old stopper being named in England U-21’s squad once again. A bright prospect indeed who continues to rise up the international ranks.

I can’t believe Hart is still in that squad, and looking at the names it must be being picked on size of ego, and level of petulance.

Did anyone really think Lascelles was in contention? Few good games but was **** for a lot of last season (carrying an injury) if he keeps it up until after Christmas then maybe. We dodged a bullet not signing Hart.
