John Carver shares his ‘similarities’ to Rafa Benitez as NUFC manager during radio plea to Mike Ashley

Ex-NUFC boss and current West Brom assistant John Carver has been speaking about his old club on Talksport today, pleading with Mike Ashley to sell up and sell up quickly to appease the ‘frustrated’ NUFC fans – also comparing his time in charge at Newcastle to Rafa Benitez’s recent run of results.

After several years on Tyneside under several different managers, John Carver may not be the most popular or the most talented of coaches, but he is a Geordie at heart and that comes across here.

Here’s what he had to say on Talksport this morning, expressing his desire to see a takeover happen as quickly as possible for his struggling former side – also drawing amusing comparisons to Rafa Benitez based on his own unsuccessful spell as manager towards the back end of the 2014/15 season.

“Obviously they (Newcastle) are my competitors now and all I’m worried about is West Brom.

“But Newcastle are in my heart and if they want to go forward over the years, the takeover has got to happen and it has got to happen quickly.

“Newcastle have had one draw in eight games, almost similar to the record I had under different circumstances.

“But the Geordie fans up there will be so frustrated over what is going on and they will want the takeover to happen now.”

John isn’t wrong. A takeover really can’t come quick enough.

To compare Rafa’s recent run to his spell at the club is all a little convenient given our recent slump, but it really has been that bad.
