Following an online poll which gained almost 1000 votes from fellow NUFC fans, supporters believe Matt Ritchie has been our biggest under-performer this season – closely followed by Dwight Gayle.
Our Twitter partners ‘Black & WhiteBarmy’ (@BlackWhiteBarmy) ran a series of polls on their page last night, with one of them asking fans who they thought had been our biggest disappointment in terms of their performances following our return to the Premier League this season.
The options were shortlisted to Jonjo Shelvey (a man whose got more red cards than goals and assists this season), Matt Ritchie (someone whose failed to score all season after bagging 16 last term) and Dwight Gayle (who has just 3 goals so far after being our top scorer on 23 last year).
Shelvey has let us down more often than not this season and has struggled to play as we know he can on a regular basis, however it’s fair to say that Ritchie and Gayle have been the biggest surprises so far.
It may have been in the Championship, but the pair bagged almost 40 goals between them last season, yet have a combined total of just THREE goals to their name this time around.
Ritchie has 5 assists to his name thus far, however just one of those has been from open play, highlighting just how much he’s struggled to make an impact this season.
The Premier League may be a huge step up, however these are two players we pinned our hopes on making that transition – especially when both have had some success in the top flight during previous stints with Bournemouth and Palace.
Let us know your thoughts folks – do you agree with how NUFC fans have voted on this one?
