Ex-NUFC star in talks with Championship duo as Loic Remy & Jonas Gutierrez also find new clubs

Just a few weeks after being linked with a shock move to Barcelona, ex-NUFC stopper Tim Krul may be set to seal a more realistic switch this summer – with Bristol City and Reading both in talks to sign him on a free according to HITC.

Krul isn’t the only former Mag who’s on the move as well, with Loic Remy joining French side Lille on a two-year deal from Las Palmas, whilst Jonas Gutierrez has returned to Argentinian side Defensa y Justicia after a spell with Independiente.

After several years at St James’ Park, Krul was released last summer and soon linked up with ex-boss Chris Hughton at Brighton.

His year on the south-coast didn’t really go to plan however, with him failing to make a single Premier League appearance – playing just five times in all competitions over the 2017/18 season.

As a result, he’s not signed a new deal with the club and is now looking for a new club as a free agent – and HITC report today that he could be set for a move to the Championship:

“Former Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Tim Krul is a target for Championship duo Bristol City and Reading, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

“Krul is a free agent after leaving Brighton earlier this summer following the expiration of his one-year contract at the Premier League club.”

Krul’s disappointing stint at Brighton and potential drop down into second tier football perhaps proves that Benitez was right to let him go last summer after all?

He was a top class keeper on his day, but injuries and a subsequent dip in form appear to have set his career back significantly.

Good luck to all three – especially Krul and Gutierrez; two top blokes and great professionals who were well respected servants of Newcastle United.
