Newcastle ‘interested’ in La Liga midfielder – Club happy to sell for £13m – Report

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle are one of the clubs showing interest in a deal to sign Sevilla midfielder Ibrahim Amadou.

This comes from Estadio Deportivo, who claim that ourselves, St Etienne (Saturday’s opponents), Getafe and an ‘unnamed Bundesliga side’ are all keen on the Frenchman.

The 26-year-old holding midfielder was in and out of Sevilla’s side last season, but it looks like he’s not in the plans of new boss Julen Lopetegui, with him reportedly free to leave for around £13m.

This is not the first time we’ve been linked with a move for the former Lille captain, with the same source claiming that we’d submitted a loan offer to sign him in January this year.

That said, I don’t see us paying this sort of money for another midfielder as things stand, with Longstaff and Hayden looking likely to stay, Shelvey in Bruce’s plans, Ki on our books, Colback featuring over pre-season,and Matty Longstaff also impressing.

We do lack an out and out defensive midfielder and could do with shipping out Colback/Saivet, loaning out M.Longstaff and signing a Diame replacement, but I can’t see us paying £13m for what would most likely be a back-up option – especially when he’s on the boarder of Ashley’s buying policy at the age of 26.

Nevertheless, this might be one to watch.
