Karl Darlow is ‘confident’ he’ll land a new deal at the club according to the Chronicle – despite his complete lack of game time.
The 28-year-old is still deemed our second choice behind no.1 Martin Dubravka, but has been restricted to just TWO appearances over the past 18 months.
His current deal expires at the end of the season and his game time has been almost non existent since Dubravka’s arrival, so I’d have expected him to look elsewhere in search of regular first team football, however it looks like he may pen a new deal.
That said, a new deal may be agreed just to boost our chances of receiving a decent fee, with him linked with the likes of Blackburn, Leeds and Middlesborough over the past few transfer windows.
With us out of the League Cup – the only competition he’s played in over the 18 months – Freddie Woodman impressing out on loan and Martin Dubravka clearly first choice, you have to wonder if a new deal would only be signed so we get a fee for him next summer?
Either that or he is happy to continue as second choice – although you’d have to think Woodman will be ahead of him in the pecking order when he returns from Swansea..
