According to ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher, Ciaran Clark’s opener in Saturday’s win over West Ham shouldn’t have stood – because Miguel Almiron dived to win a free-kick in the build up.
Gallagher believes Diop, who was booked for the challenge, didn’t touch Almiron, suggesting referee Stuart Atwell got his angles wrong and was fooled by the NUFC winger.
Speaking to Sky Sports, here’s what Dermot Gallagher had to say about the incident just moments before our goal at the London Stadium last weekend:
“The free-kick should not have been given and with no free-kick, the opening goal wouldn’t have been scored. at least not in those circumstances.
“I think he (referee Stuart Attwell) got the wrong angle, I don’t think the defender touches him and I don’t think it’s a foul.
“The defender gets a yellow card and then they (Newcastle) score from the free-kick.”
Almiron has been rightfully booked for simulation TWICE in the Premier League already this season, also being sent off for Paraguay for diving over the last international break, however I’m not so sure about this one.
Decide for yourselves below:
So the Ref and linesman who is next to it get it wrong, well not from the footage he clips him IMO

Almiron is a diver, it’s something he needs to cut out but that challenge was a foul

I find it amazing that they find almiron diving a sin yet last year when Salah was doing it week in week out nothing was said, I dont condone what almiron has done bit it’s not just him

Just need to look at the linesman, he flagged straight away.
Foul in my opinion
