Can Tiote be our future captain?

Tiote shows who is the boss!
Cheik Tiote has established himself as one of Newcastle’s key men this season.

The Ivory Coast international has recently signed a new contract on Tyneside and has stated how happy he is at the club. He has even rebuffed interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid as well apparently, although I have some doubts on that as the story comes from the Sunday Sun.

Yesterday I made a rather rare trip back home and took in the match at St James’ Park. Generally I attend away games, but whilst I was up there I thought I may as well take in the match, especially as it was Mrs. Toonsy’s idea. How could I possibly refuse? I mean it was her birthday after all….

Anyway, I could have a moan about the ref, I can moan about some basic errors, some poor finishing or some poor defending if I choose to, but I’m not going to do that. Instead I am going to focus on Cheik Tiote.

Yesterday wasn’t the first time that I have seen him action, but I did notice that there was something extra about him against Bolton. Tiote seemed to carry a bit of extra authority and seemed to get involved in in the attack more often than I have seen in the past.

He took set pieces and even grabbed himself an assist when he chased down another one of Ryan Taylor’s **** crosses (those who say that Taylor is a good set-piece taker really, REALLY need to get their eyes checked) and showed him how it should be done by planting the ball straight on Kevin Nolan’s head for the opening goal of the game.

Tiote was everywhere, again, yesterday. He misplaced a couple of passes and was partly at fault for the Bolton goal, but overall he was excellent again. I would suggest that Tiote is more important to our team right now than any other individual is at the moment.

The way he conducted himself and the way he carried the team at times did make me think though. As I sat there watching him I thought that he would make a fantastic captain for our club. Think about it. The lad shows commitment, passion, drive, leads by example, says he loves the club etc etc. Isn’t that what you want from a captain?

I’m not saying that Kevin Nolan should be deposed as captain immediately, as to honest he is the main man and does a fantastic job at geeing the team up, but perhaps there is a space for vice-captain in the absence of Kevin Nolan in the offing?

Do you think Tiote would have it in him? Is he big enough to carry the responsibility? Would his penchant for a yellow card be a problem?

What do you think?

  3. Let’s see, how many ex-newcastle players in current birmingham City team. Carr, bowyer,Martins?! 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  4. Im surprised martins didn’t smash the ball over the bar. That’s what he would of done in our hour of need. ****** 😡

  5. 3 newcastle rejects to cup medal and europe. Should i laugh or cry.

To put the pain more, duff scored the equaliser against man city. 👿

  6. Toonsy maybe in the future but not near future 😆 I think Tiote is excellent but I just dont see him as Captain material at the Mo, IMO I would see Joey in that mould or Saylor I know lots dont like the Lad but I do so tough ****, and I do think he is Captain material.
My idea of a Captain is someone that has been with the Club for a fair few yrs and knows all about the Club and its History and will always give 100% will never give up and go missing, and leads by example, and I do believe that a thats exactly what we had in Wor Alan.

  7. Have anyone having the same question in my mind.

What’s up with ex-newcastle player doing so well atm at their club, when they are utterly SH*T when with us. 👿 👿

      (Quote)

  8. I would say Nolan is the perfect captain for now and Coloccini/Barton are good vice captains for now in there own different ways. Tiote maybe when these have gone (they are all 28/29).

Looks like Europe is out of the question now. Whether it was in question in the first place for a lot of people 😆

  9. AOD I think its a case of you only notice our ex players when they are having a good game, but never notice them when the’re having a usual sh1te game 😆 ❓

      (Quote)

  10. @Big Dave: Should i say, what’s with ex-newcastle player scoring against us this season. 😆

      (Quote)

  11. @Big Dave: Aside on that, who you think is suitable for VICE-CAPTAINCY next season, since i don’t think Smith would be around by then.

    I think Coloccini. 😉 😉

      (Quote)

  12. AOD – Apart from Nolan yesterday i can’t think of many times off the top of my head where a player for us has actually scored against their former club! 😐

      (Quote)

  13. DAVE richie said me and you were picking on him when he went off to match,i told him we where watching his back for him, must have been batty useing our nicks 😉

  14. dan4toon

shearer scored against everyone….surely at least once against either blackburn or southampton?

      (Quote)

  15. Moreno – that kind of proves my point i mean N’zogbia (2) and Duff scored against us and that was just this season, Shearer retired 5 years ago.

      (Quote)

  16. Ice Batty wouldn’t do that on us ❓ would he 😕
I think when ex players comeback to face their old team they give an extra 10-20 % to prove a point 😕
AOD I think when Smith is away the vice should be Joey but im biased 😀 but I wouldn’t mind Colo getting it but I just feel Joey is one of the main characters. 😉

      (Quote)

  17. To be honest I’d make Tiote vice captain. Barton’s refusal to sign this new contract should mean he’s not given the arm band when Nolan isn’t playing.

Might also give Tiote some comfort too.

      (Quote)

  18. ah right didnt realise you meant recently, i cant think of anyone straight away…must be someone though…surely?

      (Quote)

  19. Davie – I agree. Barton seems to me like he’s more of a Nolan type captain; always geeing the players up, never shutting up where as Coloccini seems more of a Fabregas and just leading by example purely by how he plays.

      (Quote)

  20. DAVE i know me and wouldnt do such a think m8 😉

wonder if ashley was trying to sell tiote in jan,a strange one like to say he could have joined another club 😯

      (Quote)

  21. reason why explayers do better elsewhere is because of the series of **** managers weve had like souness, JFK, fathead, gullit ,
Joey barton should be vice captain ,no brainer. unless he doesnt sign his contract of course

      (Quote)

  22. Stuart how do you know that it’s a simple case of Barton refusing to sign ? how do you know that the goal post’s havn’t been moved, or even that he is doing it to put pressure on the Fat Man to sign players.
Dan I just think that a Captain has to be able to speak his mind ( a bit like Batty ) and not be afraid to tell the other players to up their game, and not everyone can do that. 😀

      (Quote)

  23. oops….I’m a daft ****…Gerrard did play…doh !…

makes the result all the more unbelievable…no disrespect to West Ham like…oh how the mighty reds have fallen..

Demba Ba and Hitselsperger…two average bundesliga players bossing the mighty Liverpool…

      (Quote)

  24. Ice I read that Tiote story and I cant find one piece of credible evidence that there was a bid for him from Chelski, from the interview I take it that he was maybe told that there was a chance that Chelski would be interested with him, but to me thats all it was.
I think it’s another case of the rags stirring sh1te as it says >

The 24-year-old saw Andy Carroll leave St James’ Park for a £35 million British record transfer fee, and could have been persuaded to follow Fernando Torres in his £50m move to Chelsea.

well if he could have been persuaded why wasn’t he ???

      (Quote)

  25. DAVE aye he did say he wouldnt like to live in london so maybe a little it,the rags added barca and r/madrid like,as they do 😈

      (Quote)

  26. here’s a one for you, should we replace Andy Carroll?

What I mean is, should we buy another ‘main man’, anothe rno9, someone who plays every game and we rely on for goals, or do we buy a few striker who can carry the burden together?

I for one would like to see us getting away from having a no9 in the team and start to share the scoring.

      (Quote)

  27. Just seen the goals from the Bolton game…tremendous finish by Nolan, excellent…Collo gave Tiote a suicide ball for the Bolton goal…trying to play too much footy on the edge of our box…

Would have settled for a point anyway before yesterday’s game..

      (Quote)

  28. ice I read that Tiote heard that toonsy was thinking about moving to Cullercoats so signed up pdq…

  29. oh and there’s reports on twitter that Pardew is in Paris watching the PSG-Toulouse game. That’s twice in two weeks he’s been in France watching games, and if rumour is to be right, that’s Toulous he’s now seen twice.

    Wonder who he watching

  30. MM yer right mate unless you are a top 4 team they will stir as much **** as they can.
I think its a case of the mail useing EDLINES to get the juicies flowing 😆
But no doubt people with an agenda will jump on this as the Fat Man and (or) Pards trying to sell more of our crown jewells 😉

      (Quote)

  31. MM I will be completly honest I dont like him but I do believe that it could have been so much different if he didn’t make so many stupid mistakes. I have always believed that he had the best intentions for us but it didn’t happen, but the biggest mistake is having that c@nt Lambs **** in charge 👿

      (Quote)

  32. Ice Ryan says that Richie was a KK hater 👿 and always run him down at everychance he got 😯 but I cant believe that.
He said something about you but I cant remember

      (Quote)

  33. Big D…I agree mate. Things started off well, and you could say he rescued the club from a financial demise. But since then the bloke has shot himself in the foot so many times it’s unreal… Interestingly enough, have you noticed the local press seem to be really scared of him now, the Chronicle seem to post nothing controversial anymore. Previously they spouted some right ****…or am I just missing out on this cos I’m abroad ?

      (Quote)

  34. Dave – I seen it. It amazes me that nobody thinks that there could actually be two Richietoon’s. I know Rich never really started blogging until last season (towards the end of last season as well in fact) so it’s not that Rich that Ryan is on about.

      (Quote)

  35. MM I dont think it’s just you, I think the local rags are scared to print ***** because they know there will be a price to pay, I havn’t seen any **** about him in ages. Saying that I think alot of the ***** was made up because there was nowt being said by the club, but from Pards came in that has changed

      (Quote)

  36. Ice some say good old Richie but other tell the truth 😆
Toonsy so Richie is just a newbe 😕 I suppose with him being a lot older it took him longer to get use to tinternet 😆

  37. I know…Pardew hasn’t shut up since he arrived ! Quite a turn around from the old days at SJP…

  38. Moreno > don’t toulose have that moussa sissoko guy? Is he still there?

Dont ask us I thought you were our international scout mate so we ask you 😆

      (Quote)

  39. Sissoko still seems to be at Toulouse….he’s a France international, so he must be canny. Maybe we can lure some good frenchmen to the club to play alongside HBA and wor Spanish trio… We’ve had a couple of canny Frenchman at the toon over the years…

      (Quote)

  40. MM,

unfortunately I am in Scotland and there’s nowt worth scouting up here!

Best player in the SPL this season was Connor Sammon and he went to Wigan for a million quid, they havent played him yet.
Big lad and very very quick, was leading scorer in the league when he went.
Another player from the same team, Alexei Eremenko is some passer of the ball, he is a bit like Paul Scholes with his range of passing, rarely mis-places one.

      (Quote)

  41. what ever happened to that guy from turkey, turan i think he was called, a winger,we were linked with him for a good while all sorts of teams were looking at him, maybe summer when jonas goes 😉

      (Quote)

  42. oops sorry Moreno…got that one wrong ! I thought there was a Spain connection somewhere.

20 years ago Scots formed the backbone of the majority of the best clubs in England. Nowadys there aren’t too many high profile scots playing in England…don’t mention the national team either…..
