A look in for Ferguson?

Shane's World?
Being perfectly honest there were very few bright spots for NUFC fans at Stoke yesterday.

From the moment I stepped off the train and into the 1970’s, to the rather tangy tasting beer, the dodgy bus ride to the ground (the top deck is not as enjoyable as it was when I was a teenager), the result, the performance and even Jay Jay’s third nipple, it all combined to make yesterday a rather forgettable affair.

Still there was at least some comfort for the suffering Toon Army, and that was the emergence of Shane Ferguson who was just about the best player in black and white shirt yesterday after his introduction half way through the first half.

Now this isn’t going to be one of those articles where I’m going to build the young lads up and laud their presence in the first team as a shining beacon of success. Put simply that’s putting unnecessary pressure on the lad and is completely uncalled for at this juncture.

However, what I will say is that Ferguson was a breath of fresh air yesterday. His willingness to run and take on a man was something that was refreshing to see, and he showed us some glimpses of skill when he skinned that Stoke player before nutmegging the next one and dragging the ball past another before seeing his shot saved. That, quite rightly, got an ovation from the travelling Toon Army.

I look at Shane Ferguson and think he is very lightwieght and that he needs to add some muscle on his frame. I’m not saying he should be built like a bodybuilder like myself 😉 but I do think that he needs something. But then I also wonder about the fact that if he does bulk up it will mean that he will more than likely lose a bit of speed, which is one of his assets to be fair.

It seems likely that Ferguson is going to see a bit more action in the first team in these final few games of the season now that Alan Pardew was forced into playing him yesterday. If Jose Enrique has aggravated his hamstring injury then we could easily see Ferguson starting at left-back for a few games for us, and after yesterday I’d have to say that it wouldn’t bother me too much if young Fergie was to get the nod.

So in conclusion, Shane Ferguson was one of the bright spots from the Stoke game and really took the chance that was given to him. If Jose is going to be fit then Jose will obviously play, but I’m less worried about a back up for the Spaniard now as I know that Ferguson can come in and do a job. The fact that he can do a job in a number of positions is an added bonus.

What did you think of Fergie yesterday?

  1. I really like him, I think he’d be useful at Left wing to if need be, seen as he’s quite tricky and also quick. needs to work on his right foot as his shot wasn’t the best

  2. Really pleased for the Lad and I think he has what it takes, but then you would expect nowt else when he is from God’s Country. 😉 I just hope he gets time

  3. That little piece of skill doesn’t cover up the fact that he isn’t good enough for LB IMO. Got done to easily for 2 of the goals. I see him having a future for us on the left wing though.

  4. I really like him, going forward he looks the part. Credit to Pardew for playing him.

No doubt if he has another good game there will be far too much hype over him.

  5. Third nipple?

How is the lad defensively? Enrique use to be a bit dodgy at the back but he’s learnt from a year in the Fizzy. Maybe Ferguson should do the same…

I’de play him against Wolves, we need to win and he looks like he crosses a better ball than Jonas.

So what did you think of Jose and Colo after their 1st few games and they had far more experience ???

  7. I think it’s a bit hard on the lad to say that he isn’t good enough for left back. Jose usually gets help from Jonas, which Fergie didn’t get until twenty minutes from the end so he was on his own most of the time.

I blame Campbell for the first, Harper for the second, the entire wall for the third and Colo for the fourth. Then again, it’s all about opinons 🙂

  8. Stuart – He was so-so defensively, but then he was superb going forward. With his age and a bit more experience under his belt he could certainly improve.

  9. hence the wrong choice of using 3-5-2 formation, with 3 slowest defenders.

    slow to run,react,and tackle opponent. 😉 😕

  10. Big Dave I just think he’s gonna be a bit small and not defensively minded for a full-back m8. Then again why would he need to be he’s got all the pace, skill and brains to play as a winger so why not play him there? He’s already hinted that he will have more end product than Jonas, one ball he put back in across the box was deadly. Im think he should be a forward thats what im saying.

  11. Ice you know I like Lovens but he has lost a bit of spark as for Bambi he is still like a horse walking down the stairs 😀
DJG I just dont think we should judge him after one sub appearance in a position that is not his usual

  12. Does Tiote miss the Wolves game? Think he does and that’s a game we really need him for as we need a win.

  19. Me too, hitman, but it’s going to be bloody hard I think. Eveyone else is winning and we’ve won 1 in 10. It’s not the time to have a bad run…

I think our striking options are looking exactly what they are – poor.

If we do stay up I would be dissapointed if any of our strikers were still at the club next season.

      (Quote)

  20. Stuart – I think Best has done enough to warrant an extended stay and I’d like to see Ranger get more time or go on loan but remain at the club. As for the rest, I agree 🙂

      (Quote)

  21. toonsy – Ranger is one I’d keep as he is young and looks exciting. Best just looks a little clumbersome and slow to me, not sure he’s what we need if we’re to progress.

      (Quote)

  22. Stuart – But at least can score. Not saying he is our next number nine but I do think that he can be an able back up and has earned the chance to stay.

  23. hey lads the bindippers spent well on the judas…

stu ,we are fked we have no strike force..big worry for me like

      (Quote)

  24. TOONSY ill gan with that,we need two front men in summer, best for a back up,ranger out on loan month or two at a time just in case we need to call him back

      (Quote)

  25. Aye, hitman, it’s a worry. Our defense is looking a bit creaky too.

Personally I think the squad is looking pretty tired and w’re probably paying the price for having a relatively small squad.

To be honest I’m not even sure whether 42 points would stay up these year – although it looks like we maybe only need two wins but bloody hell we’re making hard work of it and two wins are pretty hard to find when we’ve 1 in 10!

      (Quote)

  26. stu,ive always says 45 would be the goal,i dont even think we will get that, but im fkin hoping so m8..

      (Quote)

  27. Hitman – Can’t say I’m surprised by it, but it says more about him than it does about me. Ah well, in the past and all that 🙂

      (Quote)

  28. Our defense looks a bit creeky, the goalie is a bit shakey, the midfield are suspended or injured, our forwards arn’t good enough… apart from that everythings fine! 🙂
