Jose leaving us in limbo.

Jose's silent treatment.
As reported in The Chronicle earlier on, and as suspected by quite a few people including me, Jose Enrique’s silence does seem to be deafening.

Alan Pardew has admitted that it seems as though the Spaniard doesn’t want to deal with the club at the moment after he received the offer of a contract from Newcastle. There have been no new developments on the saga, and whilst it’s not nailed on that he will leave Newcastle the signs don’t look promising. In fact to me it almost looks as though Jose is waiting to see if another club comes along, which is his right I guess.

“At the moment it looks like he doesn’t want to deal with us,” Pardew told The Chronicle.

“We have been asked to make him an offer but there has been no progress since then. I still hope we can do something but at the moment we’re still waiting for Jose. I don’t think there’s anything more I can really add on that situation at this stage.”

Therein lies the problem of letting your players run down to the last year of their contract. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a bit miffed that Jose is leaving us dangling, albeit by a seemingly thinner thread day-by-day, but at the end of the day the club have got themselves into this position.

To me Enrique is not like Joey Barton or Kevin Nolan. He is a completely different kettle of fish and offering him a five-year deal at the start of least season would have aligned with their stated policy of not giving long contracts to older players. He would have been 24 which would have taken him to the age 0f 29 under a new deal. We’d have had him for the best years of his career or would have received a hefty fee for his services.

Still, it’s not to be by the sounds of it, unless nobody else comes in for him. To be honest I think that is a long shot.

Enrique is not blameless in all of this though and I hold him partly responsible. Granted he could do nothing about his contract, but at the same time I never realised it would be such a hardship staying at a club that he apparently loves. It was a different story when nobody would touch him with a bargepole though wasn’t it? Still, I guess it doesn’t matter now.

What does matter is getting a decision from Jose. If he wants to go then fair enough, tell us so we can make plans. Apparently we are looking at senior left-backs just in case and Neil Taylor won’t be our main choice, although I personally remain sceptical about that.

Rather than looking at other senior left-backs I’d prefer to keep our current señor left-back.

It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen though, unfortunately.

  1. I’m just gonna copy & paste my comment from the previous thread:

Well if Enrique doesn’t want to be here then he can take his goofy Spanish @ss somewhere else & **** off…

Make no mistake all you realists…time to take YOUR heads oot the sand cos this is enriques doing…**** the stupid ****

  2. It’s simple for the club. Give him a weeks deadline.

I would be amazed they don’t know the answer anyway.

    I do 😆

  3. For me, this whole situation stinks to the core.

He’s 24 yrs, one of the best full backs in the league and this time last year was professing to loving life at the Toon.

For me, If there is one person who everyone should take note of in terms of where we are going with our transfer policy, it’s Jose Enrique.

He can see we are a club standing still and have no ambition to break the top echelons of premier football.

  4. I’ve just seen a picture of fenwicks window that suggests they know something we don’t Bobby…

Toonsy, how can I send it to you?

  5. Agree with Bobby, give him a deadline, if he’s still giving us the silent treatment, go and get M’bengue and let him and Neil Taylor battle it out.

  6. Unfortunately Enrique doesn’t need to be in any hurry to say yes or no to any supposed new contract offer, though the majority of fans know he’s outahere. In the mean time, the impasse drives everybody nuts.

I reckon the trick is to keep everyone guessing until the last minute, while Ashley lines up potential replacements. Then Ashley waits until the last minute with Enrique to squeeze the best deal possible out of the buying club, whoever it may be. It happened with Carroll, Liverpool kept hoying money at Newcastle until they couldn’t say no, and Liverpool seem to have money to burn at the moment.

Worst case scenario for the toon, is that Enrique sits tight and sees out the last year of his contract, and goes for nowt at the end of the year. But the buying club aint gonna wait that long..

  7. sick of this whole jose thing,he is just sitting back waiting for “big” club to make him a offer,he said himself he would talk once we were safe, imo we should withdraw the contract offer and move on,if we dont have a good year he will start all this **** again get shot i say we only want players hear who want to play for the toon not for how much you can force oot the club

get lost dont want you 👿

  8. Toonsy- I completely agree with your assessment that he should’ve been signed up last summer, but we also don’t know that the club didn’t try.
They could’ve offered with a contract last summer in which he declined in order to wait for this summer.
Although it wouldn’t shock me either to find out the club wanted to wait aswell because he’s a high earner that we still might of had doubts of whether he was good enough to justify those wages.
I’m agreeing with witters, I think he’s starting to look a bit of a bellend…

  9. I believe Jose said that he wanted to wait until we were safe before discussing a new contract. Apparently the new contract has been discussed. Now it’s the hard ball silent treatment time until something happens.

Strangely enough, these new contracts aint worth Jack anyway, if the bloke wants to move on a year after signing a 10 year contract he just does it anyway. Look at Modric at Spuds, he’s driving them radge too after signing a big juicy new contract last year…

It’s the players perogative to get maximum wedge, loyalty…doesn’t exist I’m afraid, unless your name is Alan Shear…errr Shola Ameobi..

      (Quote)

  10. If we got M’bengue and said to Enrique he and Taylor will do battle for the left back spot, that would hurry Jose up no end!

      (Quote)

  11. The speculation is that there aint been any offers for him and that being so, I’d suggest the club rebuff silly ones (if any arrive).

Sign a decent repacement and as he clearly intends to dig in and contract down, banish him to the reserves or juniors. Doing so will limit his exposure to a Spanish cap and that might just make him realise what he’s doing.

The fact that he’s treating an offer and his employer with silence is totally unprofessional and thus he’s not the sort we want at the club.

    👿

  14. Jersey, it let’s him know that the club won’t be pi$$ed about.

Bear in mind that th window’s open for a few weeks after the season’s start and there’s always January to ship him out!

      (Quote)

  15. Enrique is on the verge of making a major decision in his career, and there is a wedge of money involved. It’s his perogative to sit and wait it out, he has the talent, and holds the majority of the cards.

      (Quote)

  16. Ice …I agree mate, I can understand Enriques stance, but he is extracting the urine. Unless the potential buying club shows there hand I fear nowt will happen for a few more months, which is nee good for anybody….

At the end of the day he’s a left back…

Not that easy I know but I trust you get my drift?

Remember Staylor… He was the biggest **** on the face of the planet when he was holding out on signing a contract.. He ended up staying and in the last few games he really played well and scored some important goals. How about before we treat Jose like a total leper, we actually find out that he is leaving first… So much anger over something that hasn’t even happened yet 😕

  31. The board have offered him a deal, he doesnt like it then move on. Noone bigger than the club and if he wants to go then lets see what bids there are. The flip side is I dont think we should just accept a bid cos he is unhappy. It should be the best price we can get.

I would then go all out to try and get Baines in as replacement. I dont think its all settled just yet, but if he wants to go then let him. I dont want players here that dont want to be

  38. bobby@ 26…..if he’s waiting to see if they splash the cash and improve the team then fair do’s, if he’s waiting to see if he get’s a better offer then that’s also fair do’s, you look after number 1. However if it’s the latter then the club can’t afford to wait as a replacement would need to be found, so if it is the latter and the club’s offer is the final one, then give him a deadline to sign it if he doesn’t transfer list him.

      (Quote)

  39. No guys the club couldn’t offer Jose a contract last year, though the ‘wage cappers’ probably think he’s on 10k a week or something I’m guessing it will be around 40k,
we couldnt offer him a new contract in case we got relegated again, it’ll be the same as Barton, look at the players with 2 years left, we are trying to tie them down now as we know we (fingers crossed) should now be stable in the premiership.

I love Jose but he is being a complete tw*t about this. I dont begrudge him a move.. that much. But at least have the decency to be open, not claim he’s waiting till we’re safe then f*ck us over anyway.

    You’re embarrassing yourselves 🙄 again.

    Thankyou TGS.

I would like to reiterate to everyone on this site. I say the things I do for one reason only. I love NUFC.

I go to virtually every home game and some away games every season and have done so since the late 70’s. I have witnessed a lot of eras at the club, some good but generally bad.

Everything I say I mean . I have no axe to grind with anyone and if you don’t like what I say you have every right to ignore my posts.

@arrowhead I suspect you are a mate of mine underneath your facade. 😉 I know the truth. 😆

      (Quote)

  46. Richie @ 50… The problem is that it is so repetitive…. Like I said earlier, I don’t even read his posts anymore…

The thing that gets me thinking why Jose’s contract was not stitched up last year is this… his first year with us, he was really poor.. And although he had a good year in the championship, it is by no means a given that he would play as well back in the PL… So I think the club may have been hedging there bets a little.. Also as noted above, he was on a nice weekly wage as it was…
