Time for Ashley to build a bridge?

Good luck Chris!
Just over six months ago Mike Ashley surprisingly sacked manager Chris Hughton, a move which angered many supporters as they felt that Chris was doing as good a job as possible in his first season back in the Premier League.

Anyway that was then, this is now. Newcastle have moved on now and finally Chris has been given the chance to move on at his new club Birmingham City and I’m sure all supporters would love to wish Chris all the best in his new role.

I will be giving Chris some support as, living in Birmingham, I’ll be going to watch a few of the friendlies at St Andrews and show some respect to a man who held us together during rather turbulent times. It will also of course relieve my withdrawal symptoms that I’ve suffered since the end of last season and I can’t wait to watch some football again!

Many of us Newcastle supporters felt that Mike Ashley was rather disgraceful in his treatment of Chris Hughton, but maybe now that Chris has a new job Mike could help out the man that done such a great job for him?

Birmingham City find themselves in the Championship after a mixed season in which they won the League Cup but ended up relegated on the final day of the season. Many of their better players are rumoured to be moving on to pastures new which will leave them with a thin squad and I personally would like to see our club help out the man who got us out of the Championship at the first time of asking.

I think it would be a great move for all concerned if we were to send some of our fringe players on loan to gain some valuable first team experience. If players like Haris Vuckic, Shane Ferguson and Phil Airey go on loan to Birmingham, I’m sure they will get a lot of playing time at quite a competitive level and who knows, they may even be able to gain some European experience.

I still think that Mike Ashley owes Chris Hughton big time, but will his ego allow him to help his former manager who showed nothing but respect to the club and its supporters through some miserable times?

Personally I would love to see Chris Hughton do a great job at Birmingham City and get them back into the Premier League at the first time of asking. And if some of our young players can help them achieve this, I think it will be smiles all around.

So is this a plan with no drawbacks? It certainly looks like one too me, as these young players will not get much playing time at our club yet, but maybe after a good season and plenty of time on the pitch, we might get to see what these players are really capable of and is young Haris as good as what we are lead to believe? Only time will tell.

Good luck Hooters!

  1. Ashley couldnt give a toss about anyone, staff, fans, players and he didnt become the despot that he is by doing anyone any favours.

  2. Good shout Toonsy! Why not send the lads to Birmingham and let them build themselves up in the Championship.

However, I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t want them to get to used to playing any sort of hoofball while playing for Birmingham in the Championship. If they keep Zigic, you know that’s what they’re going to play

  3. I agree with the sentiments you express , certainly i share your respect for CH . I’m not sure that Ashley would have any issues with lending our younger players to Brum. I suspect he would see these as the little things that he doesn’t need to sweat. Chris would make good use of our youngsters but I guess we have to wait until we’re into pre season training /friendlies to find out who is free to go on loan. I’m not sure if Shane Ferguson for instance will be regarded as free .

  4. just heard pardue has just got back from holiday today??? why hasnt he been looking for players than feckin holiday!!

pardue obviously isnt as botherd as the toon supporters in getting quality strikers in before the season starts!!

  5. I think the Swansea “refusal” is just a gesture , they have a release clause in his contract so they have to release him for the fee offered. Basically they have cocked up and are squirming around trying desperately to pretend it hasn’t happened and get more money . If Taylor and NUFC stick to our guns there is nothing Swansea can do about it.

  6. Army….should he wait until the season starts before he goes on his hols then? 😉

  7. I dont think we really owe Hughton or Birmingham anything and certainly wouldnt be letting sympathy dictate where any players will be going on loan – they should be going where we think is best for them and where is best for the club in terms of the deal.

I think Hughton did a great job here but have to say im getting a bit sick of all the sympathy towards him nearly 7 months on. The owner wanted to replace him, he was replaced and im sure took a decent pay off with him – thats football and it happens all the time. Im sure Chris has got over it and is looking to simply do a good job at Brum.

  8. Lads I cant wait till we get over Hooters he was here and now he’s gone I think we need to move on, as for owing Hooters owt I think some could say that he owes us for giving him a chance in the 1st place.
As for Loaning players out I think it should be in the players favour where they go and where would suit them best, I cant see why he would want our younguns anyway because he never gave them a chance when he was here so why loan them to a Manager that wont give them a chance. a while ago people were saying we should try to help Plymouth out by lending them players ? when is someone going to help us out ❓
Sorry for the Rant but after reading other blogs that have continual Hooter love ins im just pissed off with it 👿

  12. Chris will win promotion and win brum the European cup 😆 Seriously though, all the best to him, and the loaning out of our lads would be a good shout.

  13. Don’t think Hoots will get Birmingham up.

I think he sounds like a great guy. But he isn’t a good manager in my eyes… Too soft and not tactically up to scratch…
Do think he is a great coach though, seems to.inspire confidence in youngsters.

But I wish him luck… Will always have my respect for the job he did but he certainly isn’t the legend some make him out to be…

  14. agree with14, 17 etc. Forget it, by all means let him buy a few of the reserves he brought in a 1st team players. If we could I would charge him what ghe spent on them. However he can have the same discount any other manger offers.

  15. On brum i hope he does well, He was good for us and is a good bloke, I also would love to see fat sams ugly mug wincing at the end of the season and his massively overblown reputation on its ****.

IMO leicster are a shoe in for the chapionship with forest/brum/blackpool/leeds/baadiff/Burnley all in with a shout, Could be terminal for the top man in his fields england hopes… 🙄 😈

  19. I guess this will be the test to see how good Hooters really is to see if he can get a decent championship squad promoted rather than a decent Prem squad 😉

      (Quote)

  20. Dave…..Aye, I hope he does like and wish him well and I’ve got nowt against loaning them players if they want any but only if that’s the best option for the players concerned and Newcastle United.

  21. Jay 😆 😆 is this your thread mate if so its well written mate 😉 but I think you will have worked it out that I dont agree with it 😉 😆

  22. Richie that was the point I was trying to make about loaning the players it has to be best for them not best for Hooters and Brum, and as I said I dont think there is much point in loaning out the younguns because he never gave them a chance when he was here. But he could have Smith for Captain, Perch and xisco aslong as they pay their wages 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  23. I think youngsters would get playing time for Brum, we had a far better squad than them when we was in the fizzy pop.

      (Quote)

  24. Big Dave-I don’t give a toss about Birmingham, but our young lads need loan experience and Hughton is someone who will likely agree to taking them and playing them.

      (Quote)

  25. I have no probs loaning them aslong as its the best for our players and not for the benifit of Brum or Hoots.
But I do remember Joey said that he felt bad at being played with an injury because it meant that the fully fit youngun’s ( Guthrie ) wasnt getting a chance.
I just think that some managers dont like playing younguns if they can do without it.

  26. Dave aye but spelt Darron, just tells me it’s a duplicat comment if I try posting the link 😕 👿

  27. Army….to be honest mate, once the targets have been identified he’ll have little or nowt to do with actual negotiations so he can then **** off for his 2 weeks at Sluice 😆

  30. I think ur spot on today Toonsy. If we’re not going to giving a chance to the likes of Vukic and Airey this season I’d love to see Hughton taking them for the season.

Great experience for them obviously and what better a bloke to look after them than Chris? That would be a great education to prepare all the promising young’ns to be challenging for the 1st team the season after.

Win win for both teams and the players all round really.
