Dutch striker “interested” in Newcastle move

Luuk de Jong open to Newcastle move
The agent of Luuk de Jong has said that his client would be interested in a move to Newcastle, providing his current club and United could come to an agreement over a fee.

De Jong seems to be the hot topic at the moment and most of the attention is focussed on the 21-year-old Netherlands striker. However as yet no deal has been agreed for the striker although rumours persist over the presence of bids from United.

Interest in De Jong is thought to be high and Newcastle will face competition for the signature of the highly-rated young striker. A full Netherlands international with an impressive scoring record in the Eredivisie, de Jong looks set for great things although it looks increasingly likely he will have to move away from FC Twente if he is to achieve them.

“I can only confirm that there has been interest from Newcastle in Luuk,” de Jong’s agent Louis Laros told the Journal.

“I know that Newcastle are following him, that is no secret, but a club must first agree a fee with FC Twente and so far this has not happened. I really don’t know what will happen next. It is not up to us at this moment, it is up to those clubs to show an interest and agree a financial deal with Twente.”

“They are not the only club that has shown an interest, there has been a lot of clubs from all over Europe. More than five or six – but that is normal for a player who has scored 25 goals in the Eredivisie and is in the national side.”

Laros is keen on making sure his client moves to the right club for the right reasons and insists that other clubs have been rebuffed in their approach for the striker already. However, perhaps tellingly, he also adds that Newcastle are one option that haven’t been turned away, yet.

“It has got to be the right club for Luuk, and a club that Luuk likes. He has already rejected several clubs who are interested because they are not the right move. I can confirm that Newcastle are not one of the clubs that he has rejected,” said Laros.

“He would be the perfect fit for the Premier League. He is only young and there is no doubt about his quality – no-one is debating that. Now the most important thing is to find the right club for Luuk, which is what we will do.”

I get the feeling that this one is just going to drag on before we see a resolution to it, although the good news is that the player himself is seemingly keen on a move to St James’ Park.

What do you think?

  21. Can’t remember who, but someone was on here doubting Debuchy’s defensive ability recently and looks like Laurent Blanc’s in agreement as he seems to be playing right mid tonight.

Grass isn’t always greener, Simmo isn’t comfortable on the ball but he is reliable defensively. I’m not totally sold on the idea of having a two attacking mavericks as full backs, especially until Santon is fully settled.

  22. ST@204 .A few of us were debating his defensive ability the other night .I’m not surprised Blanc has put him there as when they played Sweden he spent most of the night in a forward position ahead of Benny a lot of the time!. I had hoped to get a better look at his defensive quality tonight. 🙄

  23. watching france is like a newcastle scouting mission, we are all graham carr for 90 minutes

  24. @Kim, missed that game but yeah heard that from a fair few people. Can’t ever doubt Carr’s judgement though whoever we get!

@Jay yeah I’m keen on that as well

  25. Debuchy has played as an out and out right winger for the last four games so it is about time that Blanc has realised this and is playing him there.

In the last game against Sweden the French CD had to cover the RB position and the France back 3 were dragged all over the place by Ibrahamovitch and the two Swedish wide men.

Debuchy was slow, made only 2 tackles and both resulted in fouls against him , and he was at fault for the second goal.

The guy is simply not a defender.
