Game On! Newcastle v Tottenham

Game on at SJP!
Well the moment we’ve all been waiting for is upon us as another Premier League season gets under way.

Tottenham are the visitors to St James’ Park this evening as Alan Pardew and his squad of players look to set about proving that last season wasn’t just a one-off.

The match itself is going to be shown live on ESPN which should ensure there is a chance for a lot of people to see it although it’s obviously best if you are inside the ground. Not everyone can be there though, for instance I’ll be in Amsterdam trying to find somewhere to watch it live, but if you are going make sure you have a great time and sing yer heart oot for the lads!

I’ve waffled on a bit about the match in the match preview which you can view here if you haven’t already done so. It details any news of injuries (and there is quite a bit of that with regard to us) along with some general thoughts about the game and a history of the fixture.

Which just about sums it all up really. I won’t go on much more as, well, there isn’t much need to. We all know what we’re here for and that is to will the lads onto victory in what is our first competitive game of the season. Usual rules apply, team news will be posted below as soon as it can be and if you find any streams worth watching and happen to accidentally post a link in the ‘comments’ section below well….. Go for it!

Howay the lads!

  2. Good starting line up but look at the bench. It’s not particularly strong.

    Going for 2-1 win

  5. ? I know its very early in his NUFC start, but after watching Anita play, and in view of the fact Spurs have 5 in MF – I would have played Cisse on top, dropped Ba and played Anita in front of Taylor and Perch. Would be solid and still offer a fluid way through the MF with plenty of goal threat.

Here’s hoping Pards is bang on again! (And that I am wrong!)

  6. Stardust, Nah I think we should have a good go at them, strong team at home, why sit back. If they pack the midfield and we sit back they will just soak us up all day.

  8. Lets not forget the performances Perch put in last season ok he is no Colo but if him and Taylor are on their game today ,we win .Our forward line will scare the **** oota the spuds .

  10. I actually think Perchino has that little bit of pace that can make all the difference compared to Collo. Especially when playing a high line or against quicker strikers.

  11. Posted this on the last thread.. Perch will be more mobile than Willo.. Spurs have Defoe & lennon up front, not the tallest blokes..

  12. Axel @ 31 “scare the **** oota the spuds”

Not a good turn of phrase as we approach dinner time, mate. 😉

    I’m loving it too, tis great to see the matchday banter, discussing/analysing the team and predicting the score. Can’t wait till kick off. The plan originally was that I get back from my 6th year weekend, get changed and my dad, brother and I go to the local to watch ESPN on their tv, but now my sister has booked us to see some tickets to see a comedian at the fringe for 6pm, so I won’t be able to go with the plan. I do however have a history essay due Monday so I’m gunna stay here and do that whilst listening/watching the footie. 😳 {out of breath istead of oops}

  14. Im a fan of perch definitely has pace on willo and cool but not the same positional knowledge or bringing the ball out. Encouraging to see him as 3rd choice though, and harps confirmed as no 2

  15. Maiga almost scoring after coming on as a sub in his first game.

Andy 😯 what are you doing in school this early

  16. Dave – he has an injury – apparently – he cant turn very quickly with that cart attached. 😆

      (Quote)

  17. Dave it might just be tactical to counter the pace in spurs team. They’ve been playing bale up front in pre-season. With himself, defoe and lennon, we need a bit of speed

      (Quote)

  18. BIG DAVE i am more concerned with what Marveaux’s problem is , i think when fully fit he could be as good as HBA. Trouble is when has he been fit ?

  19. Could be part of the squad management for europa either lads, wants a few experienced heads to be fresh

  20. Good point about Perch’s speed, Dub.. even tho I mentioned it earlier on 🙂 🙂

  21. ****, my new plan hasnt worked, i’m going to edinburgh, so will miss much of the match and will be behind on my essay 😡 😡

  22. David Pleat is the biggest ****** of a commentator.. can’t stand the guy..

  23. Two quick pre match notes:
firstly who was worried.about us finishing above arsenal/Liverpool, come on, own up 😉 lets hope we have the same Liverpool this year.
Secondly pardew should either be demanding a new cb or happy enough with good to be playing him when required. good luck perch

  24. the wings are spurs’ major threat, though i feel Santon can handle lennon(with jonas’ help) and tiote can help simpson to nulify bale, Stevie T needs to make sure sigurdson doesn’t get a shot away, throwing himself in front of bullet shots if he has to.

  25. Pictures doing the rounds of Erik Pieters at the match today, is he the next Dutchman to sign? #NUFC

    LIKE FINALLY,HE IS ARRIVING. 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  26. Where’s Marv ,is he injured?

Loads of results to make me smile today ,hopefully a win for us to round it off .Can’t believe Scum got a point out of the Arsenal 👿 ,Giroud missed a sitter apparently 🙄 .

Andy, Have you had your exam results yet ?.

      (Quote)

  27. Shola pulled his hamstring in the warm-up. Apparently we were going to name Marveaux as his replacement but we “can’t find him” 😕

      (Quote)

  28. Sholas Hammy just went ,They are looking for Marv to replace him on bench but can’t find him 😆 . Another striker and CB please mr Ashley ,we ain’t kicked a ball yet and they are falling like stones. 🙄
