How are you feeling ahead of the new season?

To The Etihad and beyond!
To The Etihad and beyond!
With just five days until our season opener at Manchester City, I thought perhaps now is the time to ask everyone how they are feeling ahead of the new season.

So far another disappointing transfer has seen supporter frustration levels grow – levels which haven’t been helped by bizarre decisions like hiring Joe Kinnear as Director of Football.

However there is at least some welcome distraction upcoming. Not just for fans of United but for fans of every Premier League club. The new season brings new feelings so I’m just asking what everyone thinks about the new season, what their expectations are and so on.

To be fair, if you look at our opening fixture, it doesn’t make for good reading. Manchester City away is one of the toughest games in the league these days which doesn’t bode well when you combine that with our ability to just simply forget to turn up and roll over whenever we face them.

I call it a “gimme game” in the sense that I expect nothing from it so if we sneak a point or three by whatever means I’d be over the moon but the reality is that achieving that is going to be massively against the odds. If the expected happens and we do get best it’s important to remember that City will beat better teams than us this season and not to get too down about it.

In a way our season starts properly with the two games after Manchester City. Two home games against West Ham and Fulham and I’d be expecting us to take the bull by the horn in those games with us being the home team and, with the greatest of respect to them, both sides not being in the same league as a Manchester City.

I think those three games will give us a clearer idea of how things are looking. Football is unpredictable a lot of the time so all of it is an unknown really. I’m just wondering how everyone else is feeling before the big kick-off on Monday evening?

Your thoughts please…

P.S – Don’t forget that we’ll be cranking up the volume here on NUFC Blog the closer we get to the match on Monday so make sure you check back for match previews, stats and facts ahead of the big game.

  1. For the record –
    I’m hopeful of top 8
    Expect top 10
We were only a whisker away last year, and we will not suffer as many injuries as we did this year. Didn’t we only have 3 first team players play 25+ games?

  2. Richie-cheers pal, seems easy enough for me to understand… 😀

Solano-stop your whining and get in the fantasy league 😆 I do know what you mean, I bet some crying about simmo leaving or debs joining were the same ones who wanted simmo out/angry we didn’t get debs in last summer. I still think Debs will come good but I never really saw simpson as the weak link he was made out to be every week for the last three years 😐

  3. Icedog,it’s in the genes mate, no way out of it. Better days will come though mate, hang on in there 😉 Ashley will be gone one day, I reckon 5 years max…… We’re all NUFC til we die…and proud of it

Last week I was at the Augsburg 0 Dortmund 4 Bundesliga game. That bloke Abumayaweng or whatever he’s called looked a real class act, score a hat trick 🙁

FC Bayern are still my German team though Ice…followed closely by Dortmund..

      (Quote)

  4. Ice – it doesn’t take great minds to work that one out. Don’t worry though, I’m a good lad who says his prayers every night.

  5. All you neggars out there stop whingeing, we’re in fanbloodytastic shape.

Let the battle commence, Monday is what it’s all about, then we’ll see who is closer to reality, the happy clappys or the neggars 🙂

  6. MM nee choice but to hang in there 🙁 ,funny i always used to look for the hamburg result, could be the KK link like 😀

      (Quote)

  7. Would have preferred Campbell to go against tougher opposition, what was wrong with St Mirren? Still see where we/we are in a month, if Cisse is crocked he might be leading the line 😆

      (Quote)

  8. Georgio@305, I can confidently predict a somewhat unorthodox season, which hopefully doesn’t end in another relegation battle.

The only consistents will be, as have in fact always been – 1) Ashley’s absolute disdain for the fans, 2) Pardew’s patter, 3) the toons absolutely mind-numbingly boring style of football…

Oh and 4) expect a 15 million euro spend in the transfer market in January

      (Quote)

  9. Icedog@312, can understand the Hamburg/KK link mate, but they are a bit of a basket case at the moment. You’re better off following my glory-hunting lead mate…1)the toon, 2)FC Bayern, 3) Dortmund….though you can swop 2 for 3 depending upon who is top 😆 😆

  10. Good to see England’s reserve team cuff the Scots last night. Easy really.

Cannot see us doing owt at the WC though…if we get there of course 🙂

  11. MM never thought you were a follow the band type of chap 😀 its the managership/coaching side of german lge i really like, seems like they have guys that know what they are doing, what a nice breath of fresh air imo

  12. Munich-you’re a barrel of laughs today fella, I know the Germans have a **** sense of humour but don’t let them kill of your optimism as well! Shola could put a hatrick past Hart on yesterday’s viewing 😀

      (Quote)

  13. Newkie@319, this is me being optimistic 😉 Having played at a good level and followed the toon for years, I recognise pish when I see it mate.. 😆

      (Quote)

  14. Icedog@318…the Germans have invested gazillions of euros in the Bundesliga and grass roots football at all clubs, and are reaping the benefits. Germany could put out 2 excellent first 11’s that’s for sure. English football has had hyper-gazillions of punds thrown at it over the last 2 decades, and we have what we have now. NO-One coming through the ranks, a pish national set up, and a whole bunch of club owners who are just taking money out and putting nowt back in.
As for the people running the F.A. etc…well man…

      (Quote)

  15. i see y/day the report jabba now has 3.5 billion 😯 no wonder the greedy
    git will spend nowt 👿

I dont like Bent at all and would be pleased if we stayed away BUT are we even looking at another forward? if not i would probably scrape the barrel and take him on loan.. We’ve lost Loven, Best, Ranger, Ba and Campbell whilst Shola remains pap. signed a striker/midfielder Goofran and Remy.. we need another option up front! Is JFK still in Belgium 🙄

      (Quote)

  17. Mark, wakey wakey mate, Bent is having a medical at Fulham.
    Remy is cream crackered.
    Campbell has been loaned out.
Gouffron will start on the bench, alongside Shola.

We have NO GOALS in the team. Neither midfield or defence…

In the dynamic duo Pardew/Kinnear we trust, backed up by Ashley’s thrift.

  18. Dear Newcastle Fan’s, The club has finished in the transfer window and I won’t be bringing any new signing’s to the club. You Fan’s read a Newcastle paper and believe everything you read! Mark I promise you Darren Bent is pure speculation. You must believe everything you read. I am the boss of this miserable club and you dont know how lucky you are to have me! I did go to Belguim and enjoyed a few night’s in a five star hotel, whilst eating the Belguim chocolates ( Very nice). I forgot the players name and had a lovely time on Mike Ashley’s expense. Now I have returned to my office and the tea lady has made me a nice cup of tea. We are watching Alan train the players out of my office window. If they win against City it’s because of Me making sure Alan does his job properly. Love from Joe (best director of football in football history ever).

  19. Dear G2, I told you to explain all this to them. I am very angry with you Joe Kinnear ( Director of Football).

Still no sign of any incomings then ,don’t know why I expected anything really . 🙁

      (Quote)

  21. @Joe. wow.. you called me by name 😛 defo printing that off!

Anyway Joe, youre full of ****, you always talk out of your hoop! why would I believe you now, we will defo sign another forward! Campbell was playing first team footy last year so by getting rid of him confirms we’re defo ready to sign another forward. phew! well done Joe, I knew u could be the best DOF ever..

Regarding Fernandes to #NUFC, talk in Turkey is he’s trying to drum up interest during contract negotiations with Besiktas.

    Kristan Heneage ‏@KHeneage 25m
They do believe he is interested in possibly leaving, but I’d be surprised if #NUFC could match his wages.

  36. yep, that’s it mate… so much contradictory stuff out there. Can only guess at the truth. Canny player though 😎

      (Quote)

  37. It seems our transfer policy is to only sign players who are injury prone, end of contract approaching, fallen out with manager, buy out clause etc etc.
    Cheap cheap cheap. Some policy.

      (Quote)

  38. Kim @347 ah that old trick, 🙄 artistic inspiration my ****. lol he probably would giving half the chance.

I’d keep checking the daily sport readers bit, you might appear in there photoshop’d nude 😆

  39. so is Kinnear on his holidays again. ❓ Did we really hire him to get Remy on loan. I’m sure MA could of done that..

      (Quote)

  40. Mark @358 ,Blimey ,now there’s a scary thought. 😯

What the hell is going on with Bent 😯 SSN been saying he’s having a medical at Fulham all day 😕 now Jol saying no 🙄

      (Quote)

  41. Mark ,the Remy thing was set up originally by Lambias ,so Jfk can’t really say that’s him ,though I suppose you could argue he resurrected the deal like. The big question is can he resurrect the club from last seasons stupor with more faces through the door. 😕

      (Quote)

  42. Kim – it’s now reported that Lambert’s come out and said Bent’s going to Fulham on loan. Having a medical now. Bullet dodged.

      (Quote)

  43. @Kim 😆

Would you be pleased if we signed him?. I’m desperate enuf to say yes to a loan.

If we sign him permanent there’s less chance of us buying someone decent come Jan or nxt summer..

      (Quote)

  44. @KIMTOON

doesnt look like it, so much for the best director ever. he’s obviously learning a thing or two now.

We dont see other clubs having the same probs tho..

  45. good words from Alan

The Magpies manager is in full support of the Premier League sides who have refused to give in to “player power”, and believes it sets an example for the rest of the division
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has praised Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham for their stance over the sale of their star players.

Both Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes have spent much of the transfer window insisting that Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney are not for sale amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.

    TRANSFER TALK
50/1 Newcastle are 50/1 with William Hill to finish in the top four
Spurs, meanwhile, are reportedly holding out for a world-record fee for prolific winger Gareth Bale, with Real Madrid having made the Welshman their prime target.

And Pardew believes those clubs’ reluctance to allow their best players to leave has provided a boost for their Premier League rivals’ chances of doing the same.

“It has been an important stance this summer by some owners to stand up against player power, against some players who obviously want to move on,” he told the Daily Express.

“The owners have been strong – and that has been an important message to everyone. We need to make sure that if players move on, it is right for the club.

“This started a while back. Daniel Levy was very strong for his club when Modric moved to Real Madrid. This summer, the owners have been strong at Liverpool, at Tottenham again and at Manchester United.

“That’s not to say that some of these transfers won’t happen. They may well do. But it has to be what is best for the club – and those decisions have to be made by the manager and the owner.”

He also went on to mention Cabaye, (who’s not for sale by the way) We’ve had no offers which surprises him as hes such a great player. 😆

      (Quote)

  46. Mark ,no I wouldn’t want him ,not permanently anyway. I don’t see us bringing in anyone now ,I think the injured Remy is our lot . 🙄 .Well I hope Jabba enjoys the £60m over the next 3 years ,he sure as hell don’t look like dipping into it at the moment.

      (Quote)

  47. @Kim. I posted that pic 2 days ago. I was shocked by the gut on him. he’s defo been chunkier in the last few months..

Maybe Pardew meant its the fattest theyve ever been not the fittest..

      (Quote)

  48. @kim

That photo was taken before pre-season even started he looked fit enough when i seen him against Braga. Really is just a load of **** anti Newcastle propaganda.

Seems alot of old news is just being reworded and put out again under different headlines just to have another swipe at Newcastle.

It really is mind boggling to see people getting away with writing such absolute rubbish. but i guess people only see what they want to see.

      (Quote)

  49. Just re read my post kim, thats not a go at you btw. I am just sick of some of the articles that are being put up.

      (Quote)

  50. For someone who has done almost nothing so far Joe has been a real noise maker. Most of it came early in the summer though just after he had been appointed. Perhaps he’s realized now it isn’t quite so easy as he thought. Even a former manager with 7 LMA awards (3 of them consecutive!) has to put some work in before starting to brag I would have thought. Perhaps not?

      (Quote)

  51. The title says shock photos of Ben Arfa. I only see one. Where are the rest? I would have to side with Santii here. When was the picture taken? We would need more details and facts to support this. I was worried earlier about his fitness based on some supporters’ comments about seeing him in preseason but what are his fitness levels now?

      (Quote)

  52. So Campbell goes on loan to Carlisle United. I thought Pardew said he would get some first team football this season? And what about our attempts to make some sort of deals for Abeid and Amalfitano (both transfer listed according to NUFC.com who are usually quite accurate)? What exactly is Joe doing on Mike’s dime? So Bent goes to Fulham. Not the greatest loss in the world but Pardew did say he would like to work with him again. Perhaps Alan fancies a coaching job at Fulham then? It is back darn sarf after all.

      (Quote)

  53. Santi ,Glad it’s an old pic 🙂 ,he certainly piled it on though didn’t he 😆

G2 ,I just wanna know who we are after now ,with Remy out of action for a few weeks we are basically the same side that ended last season . 🙄
