How are you feeling ahead of the new season?

To The Etihad and beyond!
To The Etihad and beyond!
With just five days until our season opener at Manchester City, I thought perhaps now is the time to ask everyone how they are feeling ahead of the new season.

So far another disappointing transfer has seen supporter frustration levels grow – levels which haven’t been helped by bizarre decisions like hiring Joe Kinnear as Director of Football.

However there is at least some welcome distraction upcoming. Not just for fans of United but for fans of every Premier League club. The new season brings new feelings so I’m just asking what everyone thinks about the new season, what their expectations are and so on.

To be fair, if you look at our opening fixture, it doesn’t make for good reading. Manchester City away is one of the toughest games in the league these days which doesn’t bode well when you combine that with our ability to just simply forget to turn up and roll over whenever we face them.

I call it a “gimme game” in the sense that I expect nothing from it so if we sneak a point or three by whatever means I’d be over the moon but the reality is that achieving that is going to be massively against the odds. If the expected happens and we do get best it’s important to remember that City will beat better teams than us this season and not to get too down about it.

In a way our season starts properly with the two games after Manchester City. Two home games against West Ham and Fulham and I’d be expecting us to take the bull by the horn in those games with us being the home team and, with the greatest of respect to them, both sides not being in the same league as a Manchester City.

I think those three games will give us a clearer idea of how things are looking. Football is unpredictable a lot of the time so all of it is an unknown really. I’m just wondering how everyone else is feeling before the big kick-off on Monday evening?

Your thoughts please…

P.S – Don’t forget that we’ll be cranking up the volume here on NUFC Blog the closer we get to the match on Monday so make sure you check back for match previews, stats and facts ahead of the big game.

  1. @Richie

The gimps been out for years nu m8. Society has just learned to accept him the way he is.. 😛

  2. joined your gimp league Richie… and for the record, I put my interest down as cards 😆

  3. Mark, regarding the news article link on your post.. There are no quotes or any real proof shown that we made a last “ditch” bid for Bent.. These stories are just fiction as far as I’m concerned. And the author, in a last “ditch” bid to make it a little more realistic, tacks on a 2 month old quote from Anita at the end for good measure. 😕

  4. Feeling nothing but positive vibes coming out of the club. Can’t wait for the season to start 😉 😛

  5. Its not a good time to sign players early because players are waiting for better offers. So we wait till the last second. And then get told its not a good time to sign players because we won’t panic buy.

Same bullshit every season in the summer window. Don’t expect anyone else to come in.

  6. I have it on very good authority that if enough people join the predictor league and the blog fantasy league that Joe will sign some one, so join up now, if you don’t join then you can’t complain, you won’t have a leg to stand on……a bit like Shola 😆

  7. Would like to see Gouffran play up front with Cisse. Thought he did well there in one game last season (can’t remember which) bu tPardew inexplicably took him off at half-time.

Understand Campbell going on loan to some extent but would have preferred to keep him here with Remy absent, as third choice striker. I would prefer him to Shola. There was one game last season where Campbell was brought on late on and he either made an assist or set up an assist and won a corner all in very limited time on the pitch. He was playing in his proper position. Another occasion he was brought on but played as left wing – crazy? Personally I don’t think Pardew is the right man to develop young talent. In fact I don’t think he recognises talent – full stop.

  8. Kim… I think you meant to say back to doing my predictions for the predictor league 😉

  9. I mentioned on here the other week about how I thought certain tactics are used to waste time in the window and create the illusion we’re active in the market, no other team does this apart from us. Couple of weeks down the line and I believe its ringing true. Every transfer we’ve been linked with has been dragged out to the extreme, the window has vanished before our eyes, we’ve all been fretting over Gomis and Bent while the clock ticks. Sly bastards the lot of them

  10. Enough of the predictor leagues please!

Struggling to believe we’ve actually signed no one. Worse than last season? I doubt it but with Pardew believing 10th would be a success what can we expect? He wants to have a good go at the FA Cup too – probably forgotten that means Europe next season.
On 5live the other night previewing the new season the pudints declared the Toon to do OK because they did their spending in January.

Mark I can sense that you are going to land soon and I think I know what side of the fence it will be on 😉 .
Ice i’ll get that pic sent off to you tonight , sorry about the 1st one being fuzzy but I wanted to get you ready for the clear one.

  12. Georgio… If people want to push leagues that they’ve taken time to set up for people on here to join and hopefully enjoy they can (unless the blog admin have a problem with it). Yes they’re being pushed a lot but that’s because the league starts this weekend, I’m sure it’s no more annoying than some find the same bitching and moaning that happens on here every day(a lot of it justified) annoying… but on the bright side my leagues ok(ish) now numbers wise so I can tone it down a bit just for you…..you can still join if you want to though 😉

      (Quote)

  13. Richie – it’s Ok mate, just getting a little OTT. On with the bitchin and moanin . . . 😳

      (Quote)

  14. Georgio… I think it’s getting to all of us now mate, I just want the season to start then it’s just hope(and pray) that Pards, the players and coaches have learnt lessons from last season 😕

  15. I see Bris is busy burying the knife in my back, I thought Buddhist librarians were a more peaceful lot than that. As you didn’t see fit to invite me to your head to head I will have to suffice with destroying you in Aussie’s wonderful league 😀

      (Quote)

  16. Georgio-Aussie and Richie are no worse than some on here with their whinging and their dossiers and their “I told you so’s”. Although it would help if they were both a bit funnier like 😕

And re those pics of Hatem, I think it was pre season and the way we do our photos-there’s one of Santon that’s just been posted on FB and he looks to have a belly on him as well, but I suppose we’ll find out for sure against City.

      (Quote)

  17. Newkie…Me and Aussie are serious people, we’ll leave the funnies to clowns like you lot 😉

Andy…I’d watch some footy games from last season and start again if I wa you 😆 ….just kidding, who knows how players will perform this season, Jonas might get into double figures for all we know 😯

Nowt wrong wi Benny putting on a bit of weight, he needed it, a bit more muscle will help him in the Premier League.

      (Quote)

  18. Bris-zen-san 😯

Richie-You’s are clearly not serious, only those fans who come on here and ***** and moan about Ashley every single day are serious, anyone who attempts not to clearly doesn’t love the club as much as Troy et al 😈

Right, right, the old muscle excuse. That what you tell the wife every time you need a new belt I bet.

      (Quote)

  19. Richie, don’t be taken in by Newkies taunts.. he can be mean spirited, you should hear how he talks about, Ashley, Pardz and poor old Joe… 😛

  20. Aussie fan wouldn’t mind joining your league but I’m already in one. I only have one email address and dont have a clue if i join will it delete my other league. i just thought i’ll ask

  21. THIS IS FUCKING **** MAN!!!!!
    NOT A FUCKING THING HAPPENING!!!!
CAN’T EVEN GET A DECENT RUMOUR TODAY MAN!!!

And can’t get onto this blog to here the likes of Aussie and Bris telling me to change the record!.

Richie set up a predictor yesterday – here’s my prediction – no a sod in this window. Crowd drops by around 10k next season and sales of Newcastle United replica shirts will hit an all time low this season thanks to Wonga.
Some 8yr plan you fat *******!!!

  22. Aussie-the three Amigos? They’re the bestest boys in the land. Speaking of which I haven’t seen much of Wolfie this summer, who’s been filling in for the Ashley love-in? 😕

Stem-you can join as many leagues as you like fella just use the code.

      (Quote)

  23. Stem, you can be in as may leagues as you want. Log in, click on leagues and simply put the number in the join a league section. Your email will have nowt to do with it.. also, it is not my league, it is the blog league 😉

  24. Sharpy – I think it would be better if you just said what you were thinking.

Abysmal – is a word I’m fond of. Read the Chron today. There’s 3 articles about Bent and one from Krul saying we need more signings. Then there’s one from Pardew saying he’s confident for the City game. Abysmal.

      (Quote)

  25. Sharpy, i haven’t told you to change the record mate.. but stop shouting with those cap locks, it’s hurting my ears 😆

      (Quote)

  26. Richie@467 ,I’m hopeless at predicting results mate ,too much homework studying form for me . 🙄

      (Quote)

  27. So after hearing SSN go on and on and on and on about Suarez ,Rooney and flippin Bale all window ,it looks like none are moving on 🙄 .

      (Quote)

  28. Been to see Alan Pardew at NUFC who says Darren Bent “was close in terms of the deal but Darren has decided his future lies elsewhere.” Pardew also said: “I don’t see a lot of late business for us, but I do think we need to get another striker in.

So probably we wouldn’t pay full wages. It’s the last bit that worries me-sounds like no incommings but Pards having his “no striker” excuse, which I guess is fair as we’ve only got one until Remy is back…

      (Quote)

  29. Newkie@490 😆

Kim…Bollox to studying form, I just put the first numbers that come to mind 😉

Oh and Sharpy, change the fecking record man 😉

  30. I really i’m worried Newcastle could get relegated next season. We have a very weak side. I really think we have a **** owner, **** dof, **** manager.

      (Quote)

  31. Andymag@426, I’m 15 minutes from Munich city centre mate… which s also in Bavaria 😉 The big teams in Bavaria…FC Bayern, FC Augsburg, 1860 München, Greuthe Fürth…

  32. Aussie i’m in the league. T.T.R is my team. my only worry is to pick agger or colocini mate. not many people like

      (Quote)

  33. Pardew or JFK obviously played the old-mates card and tried to get Bent for next to nowt. Obviously they didn’t want to pay his humongous salary, and offered him a cheap deal with a kind of take it or leave it-we’re a far better bet than Fulham offer.
It backfired and now we are stuck with one recognised striker, Cisse. I hope he manages to stay clear of injury.. 👿

To be honest I never wanted Bent anyway, and on 70K a week ffs surely not. However, what pains me are the lying tosspots spending all summer chasing someone who we had no fac*ing intention of signing. This has made all three of the knackers in charge look a bit docile. Reminiscent of Douglas…and that guy Pieters that we psuedo chased for 2 seasons…

I hope our plan C is a good one. Or are we on Plan D now ? Or is it the Norwich model, or the Villa model. What a bunch of bulls knackers…

      (Quote)

  34. Just been listening to the skybet guy on SSN ,obviously gives no chance on Monday night but said the instability at the Toon will be a hamper to our seasons hopes and the fact we’ve pretty much done no strengthening other than Remy. Eveyone can see the state we are in so wtf is it with Jabba , I really do think he’s gearing up to sell the club asap .

      (Quote)

  35. Also Pards saying about the jan signings standing us in good stead ,that would be the same guys who were all caving in ,during the last few games then. Well I hope those 5 months they had in the PL have a positive effect this season cause the owner sure isn’t.

  36. If some on here think we’re all a load of whingers take a look at the Chronicle. Every article is followed by loads of fans preparing to jump on their own bonfires in November.

If I could I’d put a sneaky bet on us to get something from the game, not too much mind but I have a feeling we might and you’d probably win a fair bit.

I don’t tend to look at the comments on other articles/websites as they’re all mope b@stards.

  39. Georgio… The Chronicle comments are all me using my various usernames…apart from the really really “whingy”ones which are Aussie and Bris 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  40. Kim…Unfortunately I really can’t see him selling 😥 , as I said earlier we are really relying on Pardew and the players having learnt lessons from last season because as it stands at the moment it appears Fatman certainly hasn’t 👿

Remember Coloccini and Enriques early days ?? Players do taketime to settle.

On Troy tempest on ssn is he not pretty much spouting the same stuff that we heard two years ago. Pardew favourite or the chop, Behind the scenes unrest blah blah. The squad is still good, Yes we had a ******* last season and we certainly need a couple more in (i could see the Gomis deal happening certainly after todays events btw) but without europe and with a fitter group hopefully picking up less niggly injuries well have a good one imo.

This club has defied the alleged “experts” since we came back up, The same people that were telling us it was the same squad that took us down and they needed replacing, Then when we did get rid of them we were going back down as a result of losing them. They genuinely know **** but they have a good guess and get paid handsomely for it right or wrong, Nice work if you can get it… 🙄

  42. Some fairly harsh but in my opinion fair words about Joe on NUFC.com today. The direct of f*** all has done f*** all since he arrived despite many promises to the contrary. What are you actually doing Joe? Anything at all? Poor doesn’t begin to describe it. What does Ashley think if anything? Anyway my hopes are with the team on Monday. I would like to see some fighting spirit no matter what the score turns out to be.

      (Quote)

  43. Don’t really understand Pardew. First he says we’re still after 2 or 3 then he doesn’t see us doing much late business. But he does think we need another striker? What on earth? What team goes into a new season with 1 fit established striker? How many times have we played with Gouffran up front in case Cisse gets hurt? What is the plan for the club? Is there a plan for the club? It’s so frustrating.

      (Quote)

  44. Some of the supporter comments in the Chronicle are very negative. If I was Ashley I would start taking note. Everyone knows there will be a boat load of TV cash this season and we have balanced the books. It’s very ominous to say the least. Having let go several players there should be money for wages as well. It’s up to you Joe but it might be a good idea to start signing a few players now.

      (Quote)

  45. Not sure where this is leading for the club. We need a signing in the next few days to show the supporters some commitment. We all know where incoming are needed. Joe must know as well. Get out there and make some decent bids Joe.

      (Quote)

  46. I don’t think it would really take much to satisfy people that we’re moving forward. A young decent winger and a youngish striker would satisfy me for now. But to do nothing would send a very bad message. Most people are assuming we will lose to City but the following 2 games are crucial for Pardew in my view as I’ve said before. We must win at least 1 of them and we must show some decent form and attacking play at home.

      (Quote)

  47. I think this is Ashley’s ultimate test for Pardew. Show he can manage us well with the players he bought in January. That seems to be the message. We must look half decent and get some points in the first few games or Alan is gone. Who knows what comes after him though? Would Ashley actually make Joe manager? Would Joe’s health stand up to it for any length of time?

      (Quote)

  48. No Gomis again for Lyon tonight, bit of a strange way to offer him a new contract…smoke and mirrors? 😐

      (Quote)

  49. Our spending is over I reckon.

Pardew will confirm soon that he’s happy with his squad (again) and theyre fitter, tip-top condition and up for the challenge.. until he needs to address something in training next week, after the ManCity game 😀

      (Quote)

  50. RICHIE everything is smoke and mirrors mate trouble we cannot see the mirror for the smoke so guess it works 😀
