On a day where Anthony Joshua battles to become IBF World Champion and Newcastle should have been fighting for their Premiership lives, The Magpies simply threw the towel in on what has been a season well and truly on the ropes.
Southampton were a class above a desperately beleaguered Newcastle side who were never in the contest after gifting their hosts an early lead. Newcastle left huge gaps in their defence and were unable to hurt Southampton in the early stages and only really ever landed one telling blow in Townsend’s left pile driver. With Newcastle already well behind it was nothing more than a momentary glimpse of attacking prowess. It certainly couldn’t provide a Rocky Balboa style win against the odds.
All hopes of survival now seem to be lost as Newcastle now only have six games remaining to get out of this mess. The damage was already done well before Rafa Benitez was appointed but even his arrival seems to have added nothing to Newcastle’s hopeless cause. This performance was no better than anything under McClaren, Carver or Pardew and realistically Newcastle are simply on their knees waiting to be counted out as they fall way behind on points.
Never mind Rocky, Newcastle need a miracle to stay up. It is still possible of course but on this evidence it is hard to see anything other than relegation. As 33/1 Rule The World won the National, Newcastle are odds on to be playing in the Championship next season unless something drastic happens.
P.S. A thought for those 1700 Newcastle fans who made a 660 mile round trip to that shambles and back. Newcastle didn’t deserve anything from the game…you did!

Review of season to date:
1. Owner falls all over self saying how things are going to get better and he’s staying until we win something.
2. Owner withdraws from board and hires team of “experts” to run things.
3. Team of experts hires Steve McLaren as Head Coach and put him on the board.
4. Other board members to include Lee Football Genius Charnley and Graham Show me another French midfielder please Carr.
5.. Team gets off to a cracking start failing to win any of first 8.
6. Club spends 10’s of millions on poor players in January in positions we don’t need help with.
7. Club sinks to 19th while defending McLaren and saying everything will be fine.
8. Charnley waits until last possible minute, then sacks McLaren in a panic.
9. Club finally do something positive but far too late. Players have tuned it all out including Rafa.
10. Ashley threatens “full review” in summer.
11. To be continued…..
GeordieTwo(Quote)
The club deserve to be relegated end of story.

My team for Swansea:
Woodman (we’ve tried everybody else)
Anita (I’m very small but keen) Saylor (don’t give up on me yet) Mbemba (how did I end up here again?) Dummett (I can’t run fast but then I can’t defend well either)
Sissy (please let this be over soon) Wini (I knew I wouldn’t like Britain) Shelvey (I’m going to connect on 1 of these 50 yard passes sooner or later) Obertan (I should be on the other wing)
Doumbia (I’m fit now, no really I am!) Mitro (can somebody please give me a lift up the pitch?)
GeordieTwo(Quote)
Exciting times ahead in the Championship with the top, top executive team Ashley has in mind……
GeordieTwo(Quote)
G2: You are wrong on Dummett. He is very fast.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Advertisement for Director of Football for Newcastle United from Mike Ashley, President and Commander in Chief:
Position: Director of Football
Wanted: top, top man. Must be aware of the fact that football is played with a round ball. Must have ability to smile after each loss but at the same time look thoughtful and nod head wisely. Must have an intimate knowledge of young French midfielders to make proper suggestions to head scout. Must know when to disappear if things get dicey. When in doubt, must be able to blame Kevin Keegan for everything that has happened. Commitment is essential as this is an 8 year position.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
But only compared to our other top, top LB’s Eric mate. I think he makes a better CB than LB. Especially considering what we have available at CB.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
In a very best case scenario you can see a max of 9 points, right:
Wins against Swansea, Palace and Villa.
Losses to Citeh, Liverpool and Spurs.
So that is 34 points in a best case and probably only a win and a draw in reality to finish on 29 points.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Of course we are planning on winning something. I don’t know why everybody keeps moaning. Mike says so.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
Nah G2: earlier in the year he was in a foot race over 20 yards against one of the speedier wingers and won. I was shocked myself because I didn’t realise he was that fast. I cant remember who the winger was but he is acknowledged as being fast.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
And a very dicey 29 points at that Eric mate. Based on our tremendous quality of play lately. It could be the one and only time Benitez ends up with a winning percentage of 0. I think I’m joking but possibly not the way we’re playing.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
But it was only 20 yards Eric mate. And he had a 5 yard head start. And the winger slipped twice. Still, I see what you mean. Right then I’ll give you that one. It’s good to have some pace in the lineup.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
What are we planning on winning, just for interests sake? Is it something related to football like? Some kind of trophy? Or does he mean some SD coupons and a weekend in Wales?
GeordieTwo(Quote)
G2: Ermm… if we don’t beat Swansea there is a real possibility that even a draw by Pardew’s Palace will relegate us, especially if Norwich beat Sunderland.
Then Troy would have a bigger hard-on for Pards than ever.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
I meant a draw by Palace against us.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
That doesn’t sound good Eric. Would that still lead to a 29 point season? I think it’s very important we set our sights high for Mike.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
We will get nowt from the home games if we perform like we did against scum
Icedog(Quote)
We have to drop the gutless players from now on ice mate. That means sitting Sissy, Wini, and Janmaat. Taylor is definitely out as well because he’s hopeless.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
What’s happened with Doumbia and Saivet by the way? Does anybody know?
GeordieTwo(Quote)
I think most people know Rafa was coaching his daughter’s school football team for a while. Apparently they beat us in a closed door friendly recently.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
G2: 29 points is a draw against Swans or Palace and a win at Villa (we have to break that losing streak at some point).
I want to drop Gini, but he is our top goalscorer with 9, all at home. He has to play but I would have Aarons on standby. Fck going with experience, they got us into this mess.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
What actually is our transfer policy. Does Carr ask a club things like “that Doumbia character, he could play football at one time. Is he fit? No? Excellent we’ll take him.”
GeordieTwo(Quote)
We’ve lost 9 in a row away Eric mate. Do you actually think we’ll win against Villa? I hope so but we are possibly one of the two worst sides away ever in the Prem. I’m thinking of Derby a few years back as the other worst away side ever.
GeordieTwo(Quote)
I’m at the point where I dont really care any more..
I never click on Eds stories at all now.
Rarely visit Newsnow as its full of Toon players saying they must try harder 😯
Not even sure if I can be bothered with the swansea game… which, I think we’ll win and set ourselves up for a bigger fall the week later
Depressed.. 😥
Gashley(Quote)
win 1-0 v Swansea
Draw 1-1 v Palace
Draw 1-1 v Villa
lose the rest..
Its over guys. we can’t win 3/4 games out of 6.. we’ve only won 6 in 32 attempts
Gashley(Quote)
GASH we get nowt away,we have conceded the most goals away from home than any other club 39 last time I looked
Icedog(Quote)
Gash: I think it is over as well. Southampton didn’t even try in the second half. Darlow is an accident waiting to happen as well so even if we find ourselves ahead I think he might let the other team back in. But, he is just one of our many problems.
I am hoping that Rafa can motivate this shower of ***** to at least give a bit of effort in the last 6 games so that we don’t go down like beaten dogs.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Swansea will be very relaxed they have nowt to play for so will showboat against us I have my son coming over from Malta to see them play, daft *****
Icedog(Quote)
We’re literally in do or die territory now.
Based on the fact that we only seem to play when it’s game over or in other words no pressure then maybe the do or die/last chance saloon games will bring the best out of the players…
Straws are crushed to death by the clutching there like! 🙁
Stuart79(Quote)
The only thing we can hope for is that Swansea, Palace, Villa and Spurs will have nothing to play for by the time we play them. Hopefully they’ll be on their sun beds.
Stuart79(Quote)
I think I am right in saying that Rafa has won more trophies than any other current Manager in Europe. However, if we only win one more game he will have a worse winning % than Ugly John (and Shearer).
Eric Sykes(Quote)
I see the U 21’s are losing to Brighton. Losing mentality is just running right throw the veins of the club.
The club needs knocked down and then rebuilt top to bottom!
Stuart79(Quote)
Stu: I read that Beardsley said about the Reserves that we should finish on a high note. I thought, yeah right and how about the other games. We have had a lot of players out on loan but so do all the other teams, so that is not really an excuse.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
No it don’t, it just needs a new owner, this guy is pure poison, the club has been in decline since he bought it and little wonder when you consider he bought it as an advertising vehicle with little to no thought to the football side of things. He has had 8 years to suss his grand plan doesn’t work and mark my words he would of known this long ago. Fact is he doesn’t really care, as long as he continues to showcase SD on the biggest stage he’s happy. The influx of new players was pure panic at the thought of losing £100m and his SD advertising, it has nowt to do with a successful team just one capable of survival. The man is a first class **** and the worst thing to hit Tyneside ever, I can only hope if we go down he’ll finally get bored, because if he doesn’t we will be a long time gone this time. 🙁
kimtoon(Quote)
KIM I cannot see anybody buying us if Ime honest not at the price he wants, we owe him 129mil for a loan,he wanted 200 mil for the club, can you see anybody paying 329 mil for the club,I cannot Ime afraid,we are stuffed
Icedog(Quote)
Ice, it looks that way, like I said he’s poison. We now have a debt due to him mismanaging the football side of things in the first place. A succession of dismal decisions on an epic scale has led us down this sorry path, I couldn’t be more depressed if I tried.
My brother called in today, said he was chatting to his Geordie neighbour who is Toon nuts. He said they won’t be back up anytime soon. When our Dave asked him if he’d go to Ashton Gate next season to watch the game, he said, no way I’m going to watch that *****. And this is where we’re at, totally soul destroying.
kimtoon(Quote)
Ice, the new revamp of Ashton Gate looks really good, well worth a visit 🙂
kimtoon(Quote)
KIM said earlier city really did well Sat S/wed were flying and they well stuffed
Icedog(Quote)
Kim – The club is rotten. It’s because of years of under funding in every dept. We need a complete overall. We need someone to come into the club who can actually run a club and knows what is required from the academy upwards. Someone like the guy at Southampton, Nico something or other.
We need investment in a new board, new manager who can then set out his stall and vision for the club and then start running it as a football club first and foremost.
Stuart79(Quote)
Ice, yep I think they are safe more or less now, Lee has done a good job steadying the ship there. I said to our Dave , I really hate the thought of Toon playing City , hated it last time but there was a share of the spoils both games.
kimtoon(Quote)
Stu, agree but I fear it’ll never happen, jabba is like a dog with a bloody bone.
kimtoon(Quote)
Now we’re being beaten 4-1 against Championship Brighton! Blimey – how low can we sink? How on earth does Beardsley still have a job?
Stuart79(Quote)
Ice , Me bro is gonna see if his contacts still have a box there and I may go down for the game .
kimtoon(Quote)
Stu, it’s hard to believe how many local fab players have come through in the past looking at the sorry state of things now. I guess Arma and Freddie are the only lights at the moment, though in truth I’m not too up on most of our kids ability.
kimtoon(Quote)
Ive said since *** licking PB got job he couldn’t train a two legged dog to sit.great player it ends there
Icedog(Quote)
KIM I’ve watched three under 21s three players look real good cannot say I care much for the rest imo by 18/20 yr they should be showing something not first team further for me
Icedog(Quote)
Ice, wow that’s a poor return mate 😯
kimtoon(Quote)
Good read SRF by the way, meant to say earlier. 😳
kimtoon(Quote)
KIM aye mate poor return,I’ll stick my neck out and say of the present kids we will be real real lucky to get three to progress to first team, sad
Icedog(Quote)
Ice – that’s down to the whole coaching set-up, not the kids themselves.
There is potential in there somewhere, but PB and his hopeless backup team are failing each and every one of them kids.
I’ve been saying it for years. But we have nobody in the club who knows any better, so this is as good as it gets.
All failures stem from the fat turd at the top though, and it is him that stands to lose the most, if not everything.
He now has a club, in negative equity. A billionaire (lmto) ycmiu
He will have to sell at a huge loss I reckon because it will only get worse from now on in.
No way we will win 4 out of the last 6, won’t even come close.
I seriously don’t think we will win again this season.
We have a squad full of cowards and *****’s. Even Rafa has realised that now.
I hope he drops that useless **** Sissoko.
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
BB I agree with all that mate 100%
Icedog(Quote)
me too BB
kimtoon(Quote)
As for the boy Darlow – I think we are expecting far too much from the lad.
He really has no experience at this level and is bound to make mistakes. BOUND to.
What is he 25? And with the WORST defence infront of him imaginable.
tbh I feel sorry for the Lad having to come into this debarcle.
It’s far to easy to blame him for the goals and the mistakes and abject failure of those in front of him. But really not fair. It’s not like he is learning owt from the reserve shambles either.
Deary me, this club really is in such a mess, it beggars belief, it really does.
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
Do you know what amazes me ? Those loyal fans, home and away that have given their all in support of the team, and still do, week in week out.
They don’t deserve any of this.
And still they haven’t turned.
It’s coming though, I can feel it. But I assume most just think there’s no point.
worn down into submission by the regime.
Terrible state of affairs.
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
BB: Darlow is 25 and flaps at every cross. He had the worst 1st game I have ever seen from a NUFC keeper and made Alnwick look good. Taylor made a terrible backpass this weekend but Darlow nearly compounded that error and should have been deservedly sent off. He has made a couple of reaction saves but that is about it and most keepers make the odd reaction save.
If you want to stick up for a player, I would save your breath on Darlow mate. He is probably not even Championship level but we will find out next year if he is that or not.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Eric – I didn’t expect anything more from him, but he is still NOT to blame for this mess we are in.
And doesn’t deserve the grief he is getting.
Sissoko is far far worse a player yet has so much more experience.
At least Darlow isn’t a coward.
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
Who was blaming Darlow BB? After his first game I said he should never play for NUFC again but then relented. All I ever said about Saturday is that he should have been sent off.
Trying to defend Darlow because others are worse is no defense at all. Until Darlow stops flapping and actually gets into a decent position to save a shot and doesn’t panic I will not trust him.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
As for Taylor 👿 ❓
another fraudster taking money on false pretences. A thorough disgrace and the epitome of everything that is wrong at NUFC. A fraud AND a coward.
When I look back at the grief Williamson got, it beggars belief. One thing that lad did was give 110%. He may have been sub standard, but he had heart and bottle.
Mbemba, is no better than willo.
Taylor is worse.
Lascelles is on a par.
Colo is a coward and past it, but nobody gets the grief that willo did.
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
Beardsley Boots nothing against Benitez but if we go down and its a mathematical fact then it’s time to boycott. I feel so sorry for the fan’s that pay to watch this **** as well mate. Ashley has to go imo before the club can move forward.
Terry(Quote)
NUFC are in the 2nd Division of only 2 U21 Leagues.
3rd from bottom and just lost 4-1 at home to 2nd from bottom.
Won 4
Drawn 6
Lost 12
Eric Sykes(Quote)
BB: who cares about Willo. He is gone.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
And Willo was a less than average PL player so I am glad to see him gone no matter how bad Colo and Taylor are now. We should have had better than all of them for at least 3 years now.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Jesus wept Eric – Darlow’s first game, he had something like 25 mins to prepare.
Of course he was a bag of nerves ffs. Who wouldn’t be ?
As for ‘should have been sent off’, so what? Like I said, with the comedians infront of him it would be understandable if he did. But those decisions go both ways, it makes a change that we got away with one for once.
The lad has got a lot to learn, I’m not disputing that, but he aint gonna learn a whole lot at NUFC is he ?
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
So the reserves are actually just as **** as the first team considering they are in the 2nd division of 2 and are 3rd bottom.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
We will see about Darlow BB. I will be right and you will be wrong.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Eric what I’m saying about Willo is that he got all the grief, while the fraudsters who are no better, got away with it, and still do.
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
NO my friend I can’t be wrong, as I’m not saying he is anything more than I expected him to be.
If you expected him to be any better than this then you sir are sadly deluded beyond belief.
Beardsleys Boots(Quote)
A lot of painful truth in there BB mate. 🙁
GeordieTwo(Quote)
BB said “If you expected him to be any better than this then you sir are sadly deluded beyond belief.”
I never said I expected anything from Darlow so I am not sure how you can call me deluded. I said he played terrible in his first game for us but decided I was too quick to judge. He has shown very little since except a couple of reaction saves so I think my initial assessment was correct.
I repeat, I had no expectations for Darlow so how can I have been deluded about my expectations? SIR!!!
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Also BB: Darlow did not have 25 minutes to prepare for his first game, he had half a season. He also had 2 and a half years for Forest. I can understand nerves but Forest aren’t exactly a tiny club. He must have played in front of a few decent crowds for them (20k or so) and maybe even some Midlands derbies as there are quite a few of them.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Thanks Kimtoon and everyone else who has given positive feedback to my articles. I check all comments after they have gone live and really appreciate it when you acknowledge you liked it. Cheers SRF
SRF(Quote)
Beauty Boots ever since the blame master left the club which is Williamson obviously it has exposed Colocini for the fraud he is.
Terry(Quote)
Terry: but just because Taylor and Colo are **** doesn’t mean Willo wasn’t **** as well!!!
Eric Sykes(Quote)
If we are going to be harking back to the days of Willo then we really have reached rock bottom.
At least now we will have 6 more games with these players with a truly world class manager and we will see if they are the spineless scum they have appeared to be all season.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Or they will be Karl Darlow which is about 3rd division quality.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
