Newcastle Knockout – time to face the inevitable

On a day where Anthony Joshua battles to become IBF World Champion and Newcastle should have been fighting for their Premiership lives, The Magpies simply threw the towel in on what has been a season well and truly on the ropes.

Southampton were a class above a desperately beleaguered Newcastle side who were never in the contest after gifting their hosts an early lead. Newcastle left huge gaps in their defence and were unable to hurt Southampton in the early stages and only really ever landed one telling blow in Townsend’s left pile driver. With Newcastle already well behind it was nothing more than a momentary glimpse of attacking prowess. It certainly couldn’t provide a Rocky Balboa style win against the odds.

All hopes of survival now seem to be lost as Newcastle now only have six games remaining to get out of this mess. The damage was already done well before Rafa Benitez was appointed but even his arrival seems to have added nothing to Newcastle’s hopeless cause. This performance was no better than anything under McClaren, Carver or Pardew and realistically Newcastle are simply on their knees waiting to be counted out as they fall way behind on points.

Never mind Rocky, Newcastle need a miracle to stay up. It is still possible of course but on this evidence it is hard to see anything other than relegation. As 33/1 Rule The World won the National, Newcastle are odds on to be playing in the Championship next season unless something drastic happens.

P.S. A thought for those 1700 Newcastle fans who made a 660 mile round trip to that shambles and back. Newcastle didn’t deserve anything from the game…you did!

  1. Eric I am just saying Williamson actually earned his salary not like that lazy ***** Steven Taylor. I can’t stand Steven Taylor and I will be extremely pissed off if he gets a new contract. We paid championship money for Williamson and we got our moneys worth. As for Colocini being on 60k well I just don’t think that’s fair mate and I think his a total fraud.

      (Quote)

  2. Colocini and Steven fucking Taylor haven’t got Williamson to blame anymore. Exposed for the frauds and **** defender’s that they are. I am extremely mad with the board for not addressing our defence and I’m mad we are going down.

  3. Hate to say it but our ever slimming chances of survival may very well hinge on, other than us actually picking up some points !, Sunderland beating Norwich this weekend. Looking at remaining games, it is still realistically possible for both teams to then lose their remaining games, leaving us needing 2 wins from somewhere (yes , I know) to be level on points with Norwich leaving GD the deciding factor. Currently a difference of 7, which would obviously be decreased somewhat by them losing 2 and us winning 2 to have put us on the same points in the first place. We could always make it easier and add a draw to the mix. If Norwich get a draw against Sunderland we need that draw to be in same situation. Sunderland must beat Norwich then both teams lose the rest of their games and we win 2 with a better GD than Norwich. I see no other way for the nigh on impossible to happen.
One of those very unlikely wins simply must be Swansea.
If Norwich get another point we’re screwed. If they get another 3 then we’re screwed and its cross threaded and not coming out.
After the ***** we’ve dished up though, I might be more embarrassed to stay up than get relegated.

  4. Darlow has been ok. he wasnt bought as a young un to come through the ranks.
He was bought as a No:3 or possibly a number 2 to Krul as Elliot was in the cold.
He’s no worse than other number 2’s or 3’s. look at Villas No 1 😀

There is no doubt in my mind, as ***** as Willo is, he could of done a job for us. but 250k is hard to turn down by fatty.. 😳

I also think we messed up sending Arma out, Could he not offer more than Doumbia, Riviere?

  5. We should not of sold Santon and I was a loan voice that didn’t see better coming in for Simmo either. Simmo didn’t get forward but he did defend well, better than Debbie who never hung around and better than Janmaat who flatters to deceive. I am old fashioned but I like defenders to defend and do it well, master your craft before running forward every 5 seconds then going awol.

      (Quote)

  6. Darlow, hasn’t the experience of a premier league regular footie let alone a relegation dogfight and it puts him on the backfoot straight away. Let’s see how he does in the championship with hopefully different defenders supporting him.

      (Quote)

  7. Everyone wass worried about Darlow but lets be honest, it is what’s in front of him that’s the bag of ****! I don’t think he could do anything about the goals he’s conceded and has looked confident enough. But I suppose when your protection opens up like the Red Sea it’s a bit of an uphill battle for him.

  8. I have previously posted on our goalkeeping situation , which is dire.
Krul is about to enter the final year of his contract and a number of fans on here seem happy to flog him for £10m this Summer.
Elliott will be unavailable for most, if not all, of next season.
Woodman appears to be away when his contract expires in June.
Well if Krul does go I will be most concerned as to who will be no 2 to Darlow.

      (Quote)

  9. Darlow’s no worse than Elliott. Both very average keepers although Darlow actually likes his hair a bit more. Krul is much better.
Is anyone doing anything to address the constant long term injury problems we have. Leicester have virtually fielded the same side all season. We’ve had Krul, Aarons, Dummett, De Jong, Cisse, Tiote, Mbabu, Taylor, Colo, missing for long long periods. Arguing with myself here – only Krul and Mbabu have been missed and the others can **** off.

  10. YY – I can see 3 wins being enough but 2? That would really be a miracle. I wrote on here last October that 33 points may well be enough this year. It was a bit tongue in cheek at the time but you’re right 2 wins 2 draws would do it if Sunderland beat Norwich. Scum to end on 32, Norwich with a draw to end on 32.
Seems plausible on paper then I remember Saturday’s woeful display and go NAH!

      (Quote)

  11. Just doing my predictions and 35 points could keep us up. So we need to beat Swansea, Palace, Villa and get a point against City, Spurs or Liverpool. 😕

      (Quote)

  12. Maybe norwich don’t have to play Villa… Even better.

survival % currently 20%. Will be higher if we beat Swansea which I fully expect us to.

  13. I’ll tell you another that really pisses me off that smile on Steven Taylor’s face every time we concede a goal.

      (Quote)

  14. Terry: our lot have not gone as wild as some teams with their hair. It will be quite funny to see Colo with the same haircut when he is 65.

I watch a bit of Serie A and there seems to be a competition in there as to who can look most like a gremlin or a gonk. And Paul Pogba seems to spend all of his off days in the barber’s chair.

      (Quote)

  15. Just going by the numbers, Norwich have averaged about a point a game and with 5 to play that would put them on 36. So, we would probably need 37 to stay up which is 12 points from 18. We are going down people.

      (Quote)

  16. Hey Stuart: I will go to the game at the pub for Swans but by the end on Saturday it was down to only 3 of us. Probably about the same number as stayed at Saint Mary’s to the final whistle to have Stevie fist-pumps come over and applaud 🙂

      (Quote)

  17. Eric but at least we can look at that big smile smile on Steven Taylor’s face every time we concede a goal. You know his thinking I’m still getting paid, **** the fan’s and **** the club. You could say that about all our players especially Colocini. Every pay day must feel like Christmas to our players. Take the money and give **** all back.

  18. Big D: you are a tattoo artist right? Do you ever advise against getting certain tattoos? I see these footballers with tattoos of their children on their calves and think they will look terrible when they are 70. It is OK to have a faded magpie or cross, but a baby?

  20. All the predictions seem plausible but can anyone actually see us beating Swans and Palace? After Saturday I can’t see us beating anyone.

      (Quote)

  21. Georgio: there is a theory that some of the Asian Tattoo artists deliberately misspell/mis-character their work for some Westerners who are ******.

  23. IF we had a team of winners we could possibly still stay up.

Watching the game again on MOTD, we have a bunch that seem eager but are poor in quality and some have quality but can’t be arsed 😈

Our ball retention must be the worst in the division. Another thing you see watching other teams is their obvious togetherness, cohesion. The desire to fight each-others corner, ours prefer to fight brick walls…probably to exclude himself altogether 😳

With all of the problems we have, its almost impossible to survive.

      (Quote)

  24. Georgio No I can’t see us beating anyone either. Darlow’s not ready but his all we got. Steven Taylor man marking at Southampton was just a joke. Jamatt just allows players to run past him. Colocini’s to slow. Dummett may get selected but not be 100 per cent fit.

      (Quote)

  25. I always find it funny here in the UsSwhen the British commentators have to say: ” and there will be 5 extra minutes brought to you by Lexus, not a family car but a family of cars for families” etc.

6 extra minutes, brought to you by Viagra… is what I want them to have to say with a straight face.

      (Quote)

  26. Georgio – A win against Swansea will change the enite outlook of the squad. I am convinced we only need a win to get some confidence into the players. They’re completey shot at the moment but a win will help. Swansea could be perfect as they have nothing to play for and we are at home with the fans up for it. We are now into must win games or **** or bust territory and maybe that’s when the players will play with urgency… It’s my hope anyway.

Swansea, Palace and Villa are games we should be targeting and then a point or dare I say even a win against City who we may play with some confidence. We’re due against thgem Toss Pots too!

      (Quote)

  27. I am not saying it will happen by the way, just that it is a reasonable possibility. Norwich and Sunderland might also win every game too but who knows…

    What a waste!

  44. EXCUSES, EXCUSES… I knew this would happen. That St Peter would blame loans for his bad management when every other team in the PL also loans out their players. From The Shields Gazette…

“Newcastle, without a win since January, ended the Under-21 Premier League season 10th in the 12-team second division. Football development manager Beardsley believes the club’s policy of loaning players out for competitive first-team experience was one factor behind his team’s “poor” campaign.

“Through no fault of anybody, it’s been a poor season in the sense we’ve had to take players from the Academy, and then the Academy, when they lose players, have to take 16-year-olds.

“It’s been a knock-on (effect) all the way down the club.”

THROUGH NO FAULT OF ANYBODY!!!!!! REALLY, it was nobody’s fault!

      (Quote)

  45. Surely Taylor, Obertan, Marveaux, and Doumbia will be out the door. Their contracts all expire in June (Doumbia’s loan expires). Mbabu, Gibson and William’s contracts also expire. I would think Wijnaldum will rush out the door. If we can sell Sissoko based on his play this season we’ll be fortunate indeed. It’s not clear what the status of Riviere’s contract is but he should go as well. It would be a good start if all of the above except Mbabu were gone. That’s 8 players. Krul may give up in disgust and leave as well. Thauvin’s loan should be turned into a sale. I would keep Cabella if he actually wants to come back from loan. We’re looking at the possibility of 10-12 players leaving. It’s a huge task to rebuild the club for the Championship. Certainly an idiot like Charnley is not up to it.

      (Quote)

  46. Oh and Peter Beardsley is an idiot. All clubs have players out on loan Peter. Great player. **** poor manager.

      (Quote)

  47. Journo on Twitter who’s supposed to be very connected to the club has said that he’s heard Rafa wouldn’t be adverse to staying even if were relegated as long as he had Ashley word that he could have full control.

      (Quote)

  48. Stuart
Lets hope he’s right and Rafa is here no matter what. I’m with you as well, if we can get a win on Saturday and either a draw in the Sunderland game or even a win for them the no more points for either them or Norwich and us keep the feeling and spin going after this Saturday win, we might just scrape through. If not, if Rafa stays, got to be best chance of getting back up again

      (Quote)

  49. I see Villa are going to appoint Pearson. That’s all we need. Them having a new boss when we play them!

      (Quote)

  50. Wonderful, yes too late for them now, but put on a show for the fans and go down fighting with heads held high, all we need. We need the points

      (Quote)

  51. Stuart: I wrote a diatribe of all my diatribes the other day saying Rafa should stay because he would get complete control and even shares in the club if Ashley had any sense.

Ashley is backed into a corner now that we will be relegated and Rafa can demand whatever he wants.

The Fat Man has put his trust in so many people that have failed him. Even Shearer, who fcked it up by hiring Dowie. Good footballers do not always make good managers as Beardsley is proving.

      (Quote)

  52. How big is this weekend… looks like Klose will be missing for Norwich. 😈 Ideally we need a draw.

Sunderland and norwich dont have many point to play for but our main problem is not winning games ourselves.

Swansea ran riot on us at the beginning of the season and are picking up points again.

If we did win it would put us in good stead against the two biggies ManC and Liverpool away 😯

      (Quote)

  53. Love to see us get the win but just can’t, I have zero faith in the players. What sort of ***** can’t even raise their game for a coach of his class ❓ 😯 😡 Honestly, it’s quite shocking their attitudes, talk about out with a whimper.

Pearson to Villa means they will come straight back up as well, won’t beat them now either 🙄 and won’t their fans just love to drag us down with them.

      (Quote)

  54. So Janmaat has had surgery to his hand after his self inflicted injury. He will not play on sturday because of this. You couldn’t make this **** up, what a bunch of idiots we have playing for us. I would try Anita at RB as he’s done it before and I would tell him to stay back and just defend, no forward runs, it’s too risky.

      (Quote)

  55. same goes Kim

    I’m not optimistic at all.

Out of the 3 teams I’d say villa and Sunderland have a better chance than us to come straight back up.

I cant see Rafa staying and I can see massive changes needed. My worry is who’ll be in charge of those changes

      (Quote)

  56. Janmaat is a complete ****. what a bail-out.

Bailed out during the game and cowardly misses our next game. Rafa must be really impressed.

      (Quote)

  57. I think we should lull Swansea into a false sense of security on Saturday by letting in two early goals that a team of under elevens would keep out. Maybe a third in first-half stoppage if we’re feeling really cocky.

Obviously, Janmaat would be first choice to bring that off, but Saylor and Collo should be able to cope. 😕

      (Quote)

  58. Firstly, Janmaat’s injury is no great loss for us. His defending has been disastrous for us this season. He’s good going forward at home, but Rafa has stopped him going forward as much anyway so getting a better defending in will help us and especially someone who is actually bothered about now and not their next move.

We are only 9/1 to stay up! I thought we would be bigger odds than that. maybe we do have a chance.

I am having a bet that we beat Swansea and City. Odds are 12/1.

      (Quote)

  59. Georgio – Contrary to popular belief I am a very positive person in life. I am however a realist. I have been very negative about the club and their actions, which have ultimately led us to this situation and lets be honest, it’s proving right… 😮 However, I believe if we beat Swansea we will have a good chance of staying up because the teams we play have either nothing to play for or they have their eyes on a bigger prize in Europe and I also believe on our day and with confidence (which beating Swansea could give us) we can beat anybody at home if the fans make the stadium a bit of a fortress.

Odds are still stacked against us but myt argument is based on logic but there will need to be a bit of luck and we will have to start by beating Swansea. If we don’t then it’s goodnight!

      (Quote)

  60. Kim – As I say I only really tell it as it is. The fact the club have done so many stupid and **** poor things over the past 8 years shouldn’t mean my comments are negative, it just means I am being realistic and commenting on the wrong decisions that have been made. It’s the actual actions that should be seen as negative, not the comments that surround them.
