Alan Pardew slams Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer

Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has slammed club legend Alan Shearer regarding his comments about the England managerial position.

Following a terrible showing during the European Championships by England, Roy Hodgson duly tendered his resignation as manager and the English FA now have a big job on their hands to find the right man in charge to lead the Three Lions.

In the aftermath of Hodgson’s sacking, former England international striker Alan Shearer had gone on to put his name in the hat by stating that he would be open to taking over the reins of the national team.

Despite his wonderful career, Shearer does not have too much managerial credentials and his spell as manager of Newcastle United back in 2009 was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster.

Former Newcastle boss, Alan Pardew – who is also one of the candidates for the England job, has taken exception to Shearer’s recent comments and has now stated that the 45-year-old does not have the qualification to take on such a high pressure position.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Pardew fumed, “It makes my blood boil when pundits on TV, such as Alan Shearer, say ‘I’ll do it’.

“He was a top, top striker but he has no coaching qualifications and his only experience as a manager was very brief — when he took Newcastle down into the Championship.

“What experience does he have of putting on a session, of building an identity, when every session needs to be about building, creating that identity and taking the players with you?

“They need to understand and buy into it. Together you then move towards that. It’s easy to say ‘I’ll do it’ from a comfy chair, but he has nothing to back that up.

“Gary Neville has shown how hard the transition is. You can go into any cafe in the country and they’ll give you their England team. But it’s not as simple as picking the best players.”

  3. Andros Townsend personal statement to Newcastle fans:

‘I would like to put on record my sincerest thanks to the manager, board and fans of Newcastle United for the warmth and support they have shown me since I joined in January.

Please believe me when I say that this has been an incredibly difficult decision and one I have not taken lightly.

I signed for Newcastle fully aware of the task at hand and it was my absolute desire to keep the club in the Premier League.

I hope the fans could see that from day one I gave everything I possibly could during the season and never once gave up on the fight for survival. That’s why it was so hard when despite those efforts we fell short.

The future for Newcastle is very bright, with some great young players and an outstanding Manager who I have the utmost respect for.

However, after talking at length with the Manager and Managing Director I have made the decision to leave the club based purely on footballing reasons, with my wish to remain in the Premier League.

I remain humbled by the support of the fans during my time at Newcastle and wish everyone associated with the club success for the future.

The fans deserve a winning team and I fully expect to see the club promoted back to the Premier League at the first attempt
    Thank you

  5. Shearer’s 8 games in charge were a disaster but I am not sure if anybody could have done much better. He handcuffed himself by choosing Ian Dowie as his coach and I would hope he would not make such an error again.

I am sending Alan Pardew a copy of Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People”.

  7. Ice: Townsend is a London boy and I think that had something to do with it. He doesn’t know what he is letting himself in for with Pardew. Pardew starts strong and builds a decent team spirit but his patter gets old very soon. He has one tactic – to keep it tight for the 1st and last 20 minutes. We all know part of this is that he tries to convert every winger into a fullback.

Pardew seems to have a very good reputation with people around the country EXCEPT with the teams he has managed like NUFC, Charlton and West Ham. Palace were close to turning as well when he went on one of his patented death spirals. I think the FA cup run saved him as I doubt their new American owners would have been as forgiving as Ashley.

The pundits sit there and slag off managers, referees and fans (plenty have had a pop at us).
The likes of Hoddle & Souness can cast a fair judgement on management things, but it does **** me off when you watch the likes of Jamie Redknapp, Carragher, Merson, Le Tiss all slagging off managers when they have never done that job.
I know some would say, well we do it on this site all the time – we don’t make a living from it, that’s the difference for me.

    “He took Newcastle down”

    Pardew = 28 matches at Charlton 06/07 & 19 matches at Charlton in 2008-09

“Charlton were on the slide before I got there”

Personally i think it would be more inappropriate to have someone who tries to head **** opposition players & throws the C-word at opposition managers In charge of the national team than someone lacking experience

  11. CC, spot on mate, he is a sprat in a sea of big fish managers, he has signed a contract extension because he knows full well the FA wouldn’t bother to ask him. Palace is his level and that’s probably being harsh on Palace truth be told.

  12. Sharpy: I can understand where you are coming from, but it is Pardew slagging off Big Al. I am taking Shearer’s side out of principle even though I can see the gobshite Pardew has a point.

What he forgets to say is that despite the coaching badges that Pardew himself is ***** and is totally unqualified to manage England as well, as evidenced by his record which is worse than Mr. Roys.

  13. Kimtoon: Palace will never get anywhere with Pardew. I don’t care if the sign Townsend and Benteke. He will play them out of position and they will get sick of his “tactics”. As I have mentioned before, he had Tevez and Mascerano and where did that get him?

      (Quote)

  14. West Ham were in 18th when they sacked Pardew. This is how one website described it:

“The following season started brightly, and Pardew pulled off one of the most unexpected transfer coups this century when signing both Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez. With Zamora having already scored five times in four games, the Hammers looked well set to make a bid for the top six, but from the start of September, they suffered an alarming drop in form, with 10 defeats in 13 games leading to the club’s new owners making the call to remove Pardew from his position.”

    Sound familiar Palace fans?

      (Quote)

  15. Pardew’s winning % isn’t all that bad but that is because he managed most of his time in the lower leagues which is about his level. When asked to step up he has always ultimately failed. Having him step up another level to England would be a disaster but would be good comic relief for the Scots, Welsh and Germans (or even Icelanders now).

      (Quote)

  16. Kimtoon: you and I were in complete agreement about Pardew, it wasn’t just that we were always struggling but about the brand of (anti) football he played. I can count on one hand the number of games I actually enjoyed under him. I think the best was his first home game against West Ham with Hughton’s team before he got his ideas across. Even when we finished 5th we would nick the wins by the odd goal and have a smattering of hammerings.

Actually Eric, you’re right. Pardew had no right as Al wasn’t discrediting anyone – and its that that annoys me. Like when they go on about the manager get his team or subs wrong – they are slagging the individual off.
Al didn’t do that, he didn’t say he’d be a better option than Pardew or anyone else – he just said he’d be interested in speaking to the FA.

  22. I think the next manager needs to be a good man manager more than anything else – I think that’s hugely important.

If you look at the squad of players, they are all technically gifted enough. But they need moulding into a team and form that bond that the likes of Wales & ROI seem to have.

The better England managers – Sir Bobby, Sir Alf, Terry Venables for example – they all knew how to bond those groups of players. It’s so important in tournament football as they are only together for a short space of time.

  25. Ice, Eric, I wouldn’t mind Kinsmann , I said the other day that maybe he could instil a bit of the German winning mentality into England. You are both right about moulding the players into a proper team but there is a fundamental problem to achieving that, in so much as the players seem capable of only playing for themselves. If you look at Iceland, Wales and Ireland they know they are up against it and so naturally form a tight unit to get a win against the odds. England players are always overhyped pre- tournament and far too many are entering the tournaments to get the benefit of lucrative ad deals on the back of it and to stroke their over inflated egos . Some even using it as a vehicle to get a big club move after the tournament. In years gone by this was not so prevalent imo, you had players putting everything on the line to win, players with immense pride to put the three lions shirt on their back. Too much money leads to poor motivation because the hunger isn’t there.

Get in Ashley, great stuff lad 😀 There it is, never say die attitude, we had none of that except against Wales a bit second half. Well done Wales, now go on and win

      (Quote)

  26. I don’t see why Al and an old head alongside could do any worse than the previous managers. People talk about his time as Toon boss, but he had 8 games only and a very disruptive Joey Barton constantly trying to undermine him. Even Rafa couldn’t do it with 10 games.

      (Quote)

  27. The Dutch didn’t qualify under Van Gaal & Hiddink with all their experience, They were good under Rijkard & Van Basten in their first coaching roles

Eric Ribbeck was the worst Germany manager of all time, He was also the oldest when he was appointed, Voller & Klinsman

The ironic thing about Pardews argument is that Shearer is far more experienced when it comes to being involved in truly elite football (Champions league/International football) & with some old heads like Venables around him it could work.

Pardew & Allardyce have between them been involved in football for about 50 years between them & the closest they have got to taking on europes finest stage is a few **** poor sides in the UEFA cup/Europa league. Graham Taylor was accused of lacking relevant experience and he had a far more credible cv than those two chancers

yes Andy I posted he’d had a little rant. He made good points re a lack of plan A or B in the event it goes tits up. I still maintain that too many England players play for themselves, they are prone to panicking far too easily too but that could be down to lack of experience, Rooney aside. For me Roy got his selection all wrong, unfit players , players out of form, it was doomed from the get go truth be told. Need a brave coach who is unafraid to leave the big names at home if their form/fitness is poor. They need to look at the smaller clubs too, it is not a prerequisite that you can only pick from top four clubs, many smaller clubs have one sometimes two outstanding players more than capable of doing a good job for the national side. Dare I say it could mean even more to them to be selected. Was Hart really the best we could of taken, I think he was shocking for us.

  40. I saw the players complaining that Mr. Roy was concentrating on “shadow play” in training. From what I can figure this is a walk though with traffic cones showing how to transition play from the back. It seems really stupid to me to be trying to reach players basic technical aspects of the game in the middle of a tournament. Especially when transitioning from the back was not the problem, rather it was trying to work out how to break down a team playing 2 banks of 4, which is what all the teams England played started out doing.

It shows how out of touch Mr. Roy was. He still found time to go sight seeing when Iceland payed in Paris though.

He said that it’s not the fault of the academies and it was a lack of a plana or b and the players didn’t know what was expected of them. That they played a system prior to the tournament then ditched it and he took too many out of form/injured players.
