Rafael Benitez hails Newcastle United flop

Thauvin

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has praised the quality of Florian Thauvin.

Newcastle United splashed a sizeable £12 million to land the services of the highly-rated Florian Thauvin from Marseille during the start of last season and it was widely expected that the 23-year-old would be able to do well at St. James’ Park.

However, the talented winger failed to produce his best at Newcastle and after only six months, he was drafted out on loan back to Marseille.

Upon the completion of the loan deal, Thauvin has returned to Newcastle for pre-season training but it is widely expected that the French international will be leaving Tyneside on a permanent deal, with the duo of Lazio and Marseille keen on his services.

Surprisingly though, Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez has gone on to drop a hint that he could well consider keeping hold of Thauvin after reserving high praise for the winger’s quality.

Benitez told the Chronicle, “All of them done well, but he (Thauvin) has quality. He can score goals and get assists and I always knew that.

“Now it is a question of him and the other of continuing to work and giving their best in every training session. After that, we can decide what we do.”
