Club: Rangers

Fee: £8 million

Graeme Souness really outdid himself on this one. There’s not really much to be said about poor Boumsong other than the fact he was awful. After being brought in for £8 million Wongas (pardon the pun) in 2005 and given no less than a bumper 5-year contract, Boumsong’s tenure at St James’ Park got off to an okay start in his first season. After forging a surprisingly stable centre back partnership with Titus Bramble, it was in his second year at the club when things really went pop. He, along with Bramble were to blame for a myriad of Newcastle howlers at the back and after a second season marred by poor performances, Boumsong joined then recently relegated Juventus for a reduced fee of £3.3 million leaving Newcastle a rather sizeable £4.7 million in the hole.
