Jack Colback was full of praise for Rafa Benitez’s summer transfer dealings according to the Chronicle.
The midfielder understood why Georginio Wijnaldum left for Liverpooi last week. The allure of a quick return to the Premier League and to a club geared up to challenge for European places, was too hard to resist.
However, Colback believes the club is on the right track to win back its’ place among the elite:
“We have brought in quality so far. We have experience and British experience of the league itself.
“It’s a lot different to the Premier League, so that’s important.
“We need character and spirit in the team.”
Colback warned though, that the pre-season hadn’t been as testing as it might be. Lokeren, on paper, were the toughest test but it didn’t prove to be that way. Whilst they may be in the top flight, there was a gulf in quality between the two sides.
It was however, only a friendly but Colback believes the results and performances put Newcastle on the front foot as far as the promotion race begins next week. The reality is that we need a good start to the season to ensure that the negatives from last season are well and truly buried.
