Dwight Gayle has expressed his excitement regarding the return of Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Mitrovic managed to impress the Newcastle United fans with his committed performances last season but many were left worried by the young striker’s fiery temperament as well.
Mitrovic received two direct red cards in the Premier League last term and as a result of his sending off against Tottenham on the final day of the campaign, the 21-year-old was unavailable for the first four matches of the current Championship season.
Now Mitrovic will be available for selection once again but he will most certainly find it tough to get a recall to the starting lineup immediately due to the presence of the likes of Ayoze Perez, Adam Armstrong and Dwight Gayle.
Despite the potential increased level of competition, Gayle has now stated that he is excited by the potential return of Mitrovic and added that the availability of the Serbian international will only serve to help Newcastle.
Gayle was quoted saying by the Shields Gazette, “Mitro’s coming back on Tuesday, so hopefully he can come in and work hard with me as well up front. We’ve got great depth in the squad at the moment.
“We’ve got Ayo (Perez), (Mohamed) Diame, Mitro and (Adam) Armstrong. We’ve got five strikers, and we’re all going to be working hard. If we’re not playing well, we’re going to swap it around. It’s great to have for the team.”
