If there was one Newcastle player who immediately sounds alarm bells when he goes down after a tackle, it’s Rolando Aarons. And the England youngster has not disappointed, reports The Shields Gazette.
Injured during Tuesday’s 2 – 0 win over Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night, Aarons lived up to that cynical expectation with scans showing that the winger had suffered a fractured metatarsal and will be out for up to 10 weeks.
With Dwight Gayle and Alexsandar Mitrovic both missing Saturday’s encounter with Brighton & Hove Albion at St James Park, Aarons injury is the last thing which Rafa Benitez needed.
Having missed tranches of the past couple of seasons with hamstring and ankle problems, the hope was that this season would be Aarons’ year. Sadly, that’s proving not to be the case.
On the plus side, Ayoze Perez has been ruled fit enough to take part in the key Championship encounter.
