According to reports from the Daily Mail, the expected £45million transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton will help Newcastle United land James McCarthy.
Despite a very frustrating time in the summer transfer window so far, Newcastle United are expected to ramp up their efforts to bring in new players to the club in the upcoming few weeks and signing a new midfielder will be crucial for manager Rafael Benitez.
With Jack Colback set to depart and Jonjo Shelvey’s questionable temperament, Benitez surely needs to sign a reliable player in the middle of the park and reports have widely claimed that the Spaniard is currently considering a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.
McCarthy is surplus to requirements at Everton but despite this fact, Newcastle have been unable to sign the Republic of Ireland international as the Toffees have placed a whopping £25million price tag on him.
However, the Tyneside based outfit may now be handed a huge boost in their hopes of signing McCarthy. According to the Daily Mail, Everton will be more open to selling McCarthy as they close in on the £45million transfer for Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City and now the Magpies do stand a strong chance of recruiting the ex-Wigan star.
It is expected that Everton will be lowering their demands for McCarthy after the arrival of Sigurdsson and Newcastle could move closer to acquiring the services of the 26-year-old in the coming days.
£25 million for a midfielder when we can only afford a £6 million striker?

Shocking that a player might leave because of the captain’s ‘questionable
temperament’.
